You're right, it has the beer barrel covers. I haven't experienced any absorbtion of liquids, but I can't say it has been exposed to much either. So I'm afraid I'm not of much help, but I think you'll be all right as long as it isn't submerged in liquid too longHa! That's one way to encourage a patina while adding iron to your diet.
By the way, that Boker has the "beer barrel" covers, right? I have a few of those, but I've been hesitant to use them around wet or messy stuff, since the wood seems rather unfinished/unsealed. Do they tend to absorb liquids, or am I being overly cautious?
