What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Went surf fishing this morning; a nice, cool, sunny, breezy January morning. Not much biting besides sharks, not even the small bait stealers you usually have in the surf. I stayed three hours because it was so nice to be nearly alone on the beach and just bask in the winter sunshine. Carried my Buc 307 Wrangler and Buck 110 - the Folding Hunter cut the shrimp today. Ebony, Ivory, and steel: must be an electric piano!:thumbsup::D

Thank you; and yes, exactly.
Mr. Rogers rig - I like that! ;):cool:

Good morning all! I’m carrying the same Stag NF 77 Barlow as yesterday coupled with this large Rosewood Lambsfoot! :D

That pair had flair, Ron!:thumbsup::cool:

Old Faithful today...
Nice!:cool::thumbsup: How did that knife that went to Seattle with you handle the results of Saturday's game?

Oh, my, look at those scintillating, florid covers!:thumbsup::cool::cool: What's the knife made of, Dwight, and where did you find it??

I’d like to report a RAoKG (Random Act of Knife Gifting....
Thanks r8shell, you’re a dear friend and I am so grateful of your gift I’m almost speechless
... well maybe not completely speechless. ;) :D.
...
Happy Sunday folks, I know I’ll be smilin’ all day and into the near future thanks to a friend on BFC. :)
Congrats, Ted, and kudos to @r8shell for her amazing and thoughtful mangnanimity!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

So thin and graceful. The blades are the thinnest I have seen from GEC. The blades nest so tightly together and so close to the liners yet I dont have a single blade rub. I predict this knife will see more pocket time than any other this year, it's about as perfect a knife as I could dream up.

That's an outstanding knife, and hard to resist!:thumbsup::cool:

These together makes me want to sit on the porch with a little block of red cedar and find what's hidden inside.
:cool::thumbsup: Congrats on scoring that vintage stag whittler, David!:thumbsup::cool:

Like @T.Erdelyi above, I'd also like to report a Random Act of Knife Gifting.

Yesterday evening I checked my mailbox, and found a small box from Randy. Opening it, I discovered three knives.

The first one I unwrapped was a small Winchester knife:
This is a neat little tool that fits in a watch pocket, and can supplement larger knives.

The second was a Buck:...
This is a cool little lockback, reminiscent of a small lockback knife I EDC'd for years. Cool looking camo handle, too.

The last one I opened was a GEC 15[!!!]:...
This one REALLY blows me away! What a fantastic gift! I had not yet acquired a GEC slipjoint, but was looking forward to, having seen so many beautiful specimens on the Traditional Forum. What a perfect knife, from blade size, shape, and material (1095), to handle shape and material (ebony!). If I were trying to narrow down my choices for a first GEC folder, this might well have been the one I would have chosen.

2019 is not a week old, and I already have three new knives!

Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge Randy's kindness and generosity here.

Thanks again, Randy, and may 2019 be a great year for you! God bless you.

Congrats, Vince; those are some fine knives!:thumbsup::thumbsup: That spearpoint ebony GEC 15 is exemplary! Accolades to Randy, whose generosity is legendary on The Porch!:cool::thumbsup:

Exquisite ebony Guardians Lambsfoot, Mike!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

How you getting on drinking Canada Dry buddy? ;) :D

:p The oldest jokes are the best!:D

Kind of a drab day today and I am carrying a couple of knives that I very seldom carry . One of them may never have been carried . 92 is Stag and a 92 in Jobillo Wood . Sorry about having to use some Old pics....
In this picture : I no longer have the one in the bottom the picture . I gifted it in 2016 . I do still have the darker one and it is in my pocket .

I think they are a nice pattern , but I just can not warm up to them
Harry
No accounting for tastes, Harry. ;) Who knows why some knives "click" for each of us and why others don't?:eek::rolleyes:

It is a Rough Rider Bartender's Knife in Blue Ocean Smooth Bone. I was blown away how beautiful this was when I got it. It hardly costs anything and it checks all my boxes...gunstock, smooth bone, blue, pinstriped bolsters and a good cause. They are donating 50% of the proceeds to the Cancer Institute at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. They make a red version too which benefits heart disease.
Thanks for the info, Darren.:cool::cool:

I like carrying this knife on Sundays.

Pleasant pastoral photo, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Love the baseball Tinker, Vince!:cool::thumbsup: How's that book? I have The Armchair Book of Baseball II edited by Thorn, a compilation of short works. One of my favorite baseball books is Thorn and Palmer's The Hidden Game of Baseball, one of the seminal works on sabermetrics (today they say "analytics") back in the early 1980s, along with Bill James' stuff. ;)
Actually, the book was not that memorable to me. I believe the cover has a blurb by Jane Leavy, who wrote a great book about Sandy Koufax. I like everything I've read by Tom Verducci. I like biographies of great players, like Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Joe DiMaggio, Nolan Ryan, Willie Mays, etc. One of the more interesting baseball books I've read in recent years is "Driving Mr. Yogi," about Ron Guidry ("Gator") chauffeuring Yogi Berra to spring training every year till almost the end of Berra's life. I like anything by or about Yogi, probably my favorite baseball player (10 WS rings!). A very decent man who was also one of the game's greatest catchers. I also like history, and books about a particular team's special season, or a special World Series, or a special game, like Bobby Thompson's home run in the playoff between the Giants and the Dodgers in 1951 to win the NL pennant ("the shot heard round the world").

Well, I could go on and on about baseball, but this ain't the forum for that! Just wanted to answer your question.

I was used to seeing Santa on house roofs and climbing on chimneys around Christmas in US, but was amazed in Spain by all of the buildings with kings climbing up the outside walls and creeping over balcony railings! ;) Are you familiar with the Kings' Day cakes with the prize inside that earns its finder a crown?
I saw some of those cakes at a Mexican bakery yesterday when I was getting some pan dulce (sweet bread) for my mother. I think it's big in many Latin American countries, and I do live not too far from the Mexican border. Some friends from Puerto Rico told us that children receive gifts on this day, usually in their shoes under their bed, if I recall correctly. The parents also may scatter hay around--camels' food maybe--to make it appear the three kings were there.

That’s a keeper, and likely irreplaceable.

We would have taken your word that it was oak, since your logger’s shirt was hiding it.

Thanks and, yes, it is. As to the tree edit, I know there are some sharp eyes on this thread.

That hog takes the blue ribbon, Stuart!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Despite the conditions, you prevailed, Stuart. Awesome shots of that superb jack you discovered!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, GT.

A true Knife Knut! :D Great photo of a classy knife my friend, hope you're warmed up now :)

Thanks, Jack. I try to be a gallant as Sir Walter, but hope to avoid his fate from a fickle female.

I have never seen a Kerr before, Dwight, nor could I find info on the firm. Truly an interesting knife - and beautiful.

I also had a small collection of Queen Winterbottom Bone/Delrin Traditionals. Upon opening the package that collection increased by 33% immediately. Also in that pile of knives was my first “real” Winterbottom Bone Queen along with a few I didn’t have yet.

I love seeing your expanded Queen collection, Ted. Thanks for showing. Kudos to @r8shell .

Totin' this old Utica

Man, those covers glow like a warm fire.

Had this out for a picture and now going to carry it!

Yep, that's the one!!

Real Eye Candy there my friend .

Thanks, Harry. I go back to the pearl pile time and again.

Despite the challenges, still a fine photo, Stuart!:cool::thumbsup: Glad the blade reflects tree limbs instead of your shirtless torso!

Thanks, GT, and you aren't the only happy one.

And, as a bonus, here are the knives usually on my desk at the office

There is comfort in continuity, GT. I like seeing your constant contingent.

Love Doc, so glad I got to see him play live before he passed .

I am, too, Steve. He was a national treasure.

@Old Hunter love the photos. I haven't surf fished in many years. My late dad loved to fish for whiting and pompano in the early 60's when we vacationed in Florida. After the crowds had left the beach, it was just beachcombers and fisherman. Very relaxing.

Thank you JB. If I had angled the picture a bit more west you would have seen the vacant Oceanana Pier (Hurricane Florence got the end). I stopped by to see what progress on repairing her had been made - reopening on Easter Sunday. Think I will attend the sunrise service at Fort Macon, then attend the reopening of the Oceanana that day - so glad to see the pier is coming back - down to two on Bogue Banks now.

Monday morning, new work week and I've got a three day road trip for work, so I'm back to the Blue Barlow for a few days. OH
