What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I decided to dust off the collection and put some older knives back into rotation. Today a Rossignol made Laguiole, that a girlfriend bought for me after I bought my father a En Aubrac one when I was in France and backpacking around Europe, I was saving my money to buy a guitar in Spain, and she surprised we with this fella after we were home. It has 440 steel, not sure if A,B,or C but it takes and keeps a nice edge, it has a nice heat treat whatever it is, no kicks on the old Laguioles so the tip of the blade rest on the spring, you have to close gently. I don't own a lot of SS knives but use to carry this one often, was my EDC when I was a chef and also used camping, very tuff and very well made.

@Pete: That Lagouile (hope for correct typing) looks really great. Is that a horn handle?

Kind regards
Andi

Yes it is Andi, unfortunately, there are two chunks missing on the mark side, from being stored in a knife roll, the elastic straps had some sort of reaction with the horn :-(, I've had this knife for a little over 12 years and the horn is not as nice as when new. Laguioles have the most positive lockup of any slipjoint I've owned.

The lock at the Laguioles is really strong. I have one (maybe pakistan made), but it has snap like a tank. There´s something in France, "closing it smoothly will let it live longer". I don´t know, how it´s called in french, but they are completelly right.

Kind regards
Andi

Thank you, Sir!

I never was educated in french language.

I really like the horn handles on this one, Pete.

Kind regards
Andi

All this talk of Laguioles tempted me to pocket one of my Fontenille-Patauds. This one in Natural Bone that's yellowing nicely, it's also a lockback and has a blade stop so there's no risk of damaging the edge by careless snapping. Le couteau? C'est moi!

Thanks, Guillaume

That's a nice looking knife. I've never owned an Amber bone, as I've never like the way it looks in the stock photos, but your pic has changed my mind. It looks like it has mellowed a bit, and it looks great against that patina.

Thanks guys, if you're on the fence about amber bone you really owe it to yourself to see it in person. IMO it is Case's nicest handle material. I just love the stuff.

Not to mention lifting a few bottle caps!

Used the Camillus to take care of the tape on this package which FedEx left on the step to get wet in the rain. Luckily it hadn't soaked through to the inside so the contents were safe.
