What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

:D:D

I can certainly understand your well-stated position, P PythonDR !:thumbsup::cool: I'm a huge fan of the sowbelly stockman pattern, and although I've never had the Winchester version, it sure looks compelling!

Well, it took me a while to find it. Thanks to the gang here I bought quite a few different knives and rotated through them, but none were ever "just right". When I found the Winchester, though, that was the end of my knife buying.

I still lurk around here, because it's fun to see some the great knives everyone else has, but I'm personally content with what I have.

My wife, on the other hand, has yet to find "her" knife. She's gone through a number of patterns now, and today I bought her yet another to try out. Unfortunately the knives she thinks she'd like are always expensive! (On the plus side, she doesn't like jewelry, so I've got that going for me.)

That is a fine and sturdy looking fixed blade. I'm curious, what the length?
It’s a hair under 8.5” overall and the business end is a shade under 4” of 768 layer 15n20/1095. It’ll be a user for years to come. I’ve been extremely happy with all his work I’ve owned so far.

Been looking at Marlin Spiked Mariner knives. I came across this one from Sheffield. It’s a beast of a knife. The person who owned this must have been a professional “Old Salt.” A little up/down in the open position, but other than that, it’s brutally sharp, has crisp half stops, and centered. Definitely not a toy, and was used hard.

In my silly imagination, this is an image of the former owner,

Absolutely love it Harvey! What's the tang stamp?

Thanks Stuart! You late father must have been quite an outstanding individual! My late father was very involved with the Cold War, as well; those were some "high stakes" days! I spent a bit of time in Germany and that area of Bavaria is visually stunning

Btw, your Box 'O Queen Barlows is awesome!!!

A rush of German memories hit me so instead of waiting for Saturday, I decided to carry these two Teutonic ticklers; Teutonic Tuesday? :D A Puma from the early 80's and a Solingen made Bulldog Brand :)

That is a wonderful Puma! My father had one like that, but after he passed away I couldn't find it.

- my first..........great knives - astonishing vfm to say the very least

Yep, Opinel cuts far above its price range. Nice olive handle, too.

A little late for Micarta Monday, but oh well.

Thank you Dwight. I have not been able to decipher it yet. I think the second line is Cutlery Co.

It does, a little. Maybe Jack Black Jack Black will give it a look see. Thanks for the response, Buzz.

Great-looking knife Harvey, congratulations :) For identification purposes, you really need to show crisp unfiltered photos, but that looks like Mulberry Cutlery Co. They were based on Mulberry Street in the centre of Sheffield, and established by a Swiss immigrant called Lewis Barnescone if I remember correctly. They did manufacture originally (under the Lewis Barnascone mark), but were mainly factors, and your knife was probably made by another Sheffield cutlery firm or a jobbing cutler. When @Cambertree visited Sheffield, his hotel was on Mulberry Street, and I gave him one of their knives (though I'm afraid it wasn't anywhere near as nice as that one)

Victorinox and Case today. The SwissChamp is particularly useful for the viewing of 20 million year old insects, forever preserved in baltic amber.
