Happy Hanukkah my friend . I hope that you are keeping well .Love it !!!!
Thanks for that 1st hand history! It's been many years, but I remember old Stanley. Back in the 50s & 60s, you couldn't pick up any outdoor magazine without seeing one of his ads for trapping lures. He owned a lot of land between Ft. Louden & Fannetsburg, PA, and all of it was surrounded by a high fence & "No Trespassing" signs every few yards. As far as I know, no one was ever allowed to hunt on his land except my father-in-law.
It looks like it's all a big housing development now.
Aaaaand, here's my carry for the day.

Thanks for filling in that improved muskrat background for me, Jeff!Well, Improved muskrats have a blade etch that says Improved Muskrat.
I have read that it may be because of a man named Stanley Hawbaker. He ran a business supplying trappers and hunters, and commissioned SFOs from first Schrade, then Case to produce muskrats but with one clip blade replaced with a wharncliff. Schrade called it the Improved, and then simply stuck with it when they went back to the two clip muskrats. Because...
who wants an Unimproved Muskrat?
There are other theories out there, but this one sounds reasonable
Bruce,Old Hunter , kindly gave this I.M. to me
View attachment 1472070 And this knife photo has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of Muskrattery, but this evening, after sundown, I remembered to go out and harvest a bunch of the greens in my garden. We might get actual winter weather tomorrow. So I grabbed this Kutmaster with the Universal Plumbing Supply stamp and a flashlight, and filled a couple of grocery bags with romaine and red lettuce, spinach, arugula, and cilantro.
Believe it or not, I still have brussells sprouts forming up too.

It’s crazy, but a second planting of greens in late September/early October really works.
Definitely a memorable turn of phrase, Jack....
It's stuck with me 30-odd years Gary, so not a bad advertising slogan I guess!![]()
Thanks buddy, I definitely prefer the modded shape![]()

Cool project, Tom!The knife came without the green skins over the hollow stamped steel handles - I made them out of some adhesive vinyl made for sign lettering. I managed to tuck the vinyl into the slight gap between the handles and the liners, and I have only carried it a couple of days but it seems to be holding up ok so far. If they come off, I still have around 139 square inches of vinyl left to make new ones. A cheap knife with a childish mod, and I am wholly unashamed.
These all got the same treatment, with varying degrees of success:

Sorry that circumstances require moving back to a lockdown, John.
That spearpoint equal-ender is a knockout, Mike!!Happy Saturday, y'all! Even with how long 2020 has seemed, it's hard to believe there's only 3 weeks left to New Years!
Have a great weekend

Couple of cheerful knives, ED!We had our first real snow of the season yesterday afternoon and last night. Only about 3-inches but it dang neared killed me shoveling it. Still having snow flurries this morning and I've still got to clear off some more snow around the shop. Since my surgery in February/March, the wife has to come out and watch me in case I fall. "God a Mighty" - I'd like to strangle the dude or dudett that said your Senior Years are your Golden Years. He or she must have been in their thirties when they said it. Anyway, had a hard time deciding which knife to carry to slice snow flakes with so I've slipped these two - a Sod Buster Jr. and a single blade Sowbelly - in my pockets to carry.

Pairing your stag HHB with that Farmer is an excellent decision!

Beautiful grain on Valley Jack GT!Thanks for filling in that improved muskrat background for me, Jeff!I'd heard of Hawbaker before (and even have a Rough Rider clip/wharncliffe muskrat) but wasn't aware of his connection to Schrade until I read your post. I don't think I've ever seen one of the Schrade SFOs for Hawbaker and was confused by the "normal" Schrade muskrats that had an "improved" etch. Your story sure sounds reasonable to me!
I've often heard about the "firstfruits" of a garden, orchard, farm, etc., but I can't recall hearing about "lastfruits". I hope you enjoy the lastfruits of your garden here in mid-December!
Definitely a memorable turn of phrase, Jack.

Cool project, Tom!
Not something I'd probably try myself because I enjoy the simple stamped steel handles. My wife and I have our own private (until now) comedy routine. I'll say, "Do you want some coffee?" She'll say, "Yes, please - I like my coffee like my men, black and hot!" (Neither of those describes me.) I'll then reply, "I like my knives like my women, naked and cheap!" (That seldom describes her.)
Sorry that circumstances require moving back to a lockdown, John.Highly desirable pair of knives you have there!
Is that some kind of Christmas decoration between the knives, or is that a real, and VERY fancy, cookie?
That spearpoint equal-ender is a knockout, Mike!!
(They could stick a sheepsfoot on the other end and sell a knife or two!)
Couple of cheerful knives, ED!
Take it easy with the snow removal this winter; it's been a tough year for you!
