What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

The way that ebony is cut it resembles micarta weave!

Actually, the way that black G-10 is cut it resembles micarta which resembles ebony. :p
(The "weave" is not nearly as apparent to the naked eye when the knife is in hand.)

It is something the way that Richard was able to retain (especially when you see it in person) the character and look of ebony while utiilizing synthetic covers.
He is one of the true artists when it comes to building a slipjoint. If you ever make it to a show where Richard is exhibiting, make it a point to pick up and feel the action on his knives.

The girlfriend and I are going to Busch Gardens for Christmas Town today, and I'm having trouble deciding which knife is going to be riding in my pocket, a Buck 055 or a Case Small Texas Jack..Hell, maybe I'll take both.

*Edit*
I decided on the Buck 055

Mike, thats a great knife---I swear I just sharpened mine two days ago after a long resting EDC period. Did yours have "Kon Kav" imprinted on the main blade @ one time?

Thanks Paul. I think this knife is as old as me. My dad bought it new, then gave it to me when I was 12. He polished it up if I remember correctly, so any etching or print was gone by the time I got it. The grinds and the steel are so nice on these old Schrades, all I've ever had to do is strop it and it stays sharpest of any traditional I have.
By the way, the grinds are flat, so I'd say it wasn't the Kon Kav.

Inspire by Mike I had to retrieve my Schrade Walden 880 "Kon Kav" Stockman and throw it in my pocket---I had just brought it out a few days ago to sharpen it.

A very interesting-looking pair :)

Been awhile since I've carried my first traditional knife. I need to give her a good cleaning.

Tons of character

I've been working at a bookfair in Manchester all day (exhausted), so just had a Leatherman and a wee Leatherman Micra.

Quick cell pic posted from the woods. Walking around looking for interesting down trees and roots to whittle.

Ed's comments the other day about the Boker stockman jack, or two blade stockman, reminded me that I'd not carried it very much. And I decided to remedy that this weekend. It's a well constructed knife with beautiful olive wood scales. I like the 440C blades.

Ed's picture is much better than mine, so I am going to pirate it and post it here:

A great walk and I found one better than wood. Cleaned all the tree sap off my machete with acetone, sharpened it back up with a leather belt and black compound. A good walk. The antler is too small for anything so I may try a beed of carving it. :)
