What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I carry today this French "Farol", in the shape of a whale.;)

You can keep posting pictures of that one. Cool knife!

I have been so busy at work I didn’t even realize it was St Paddy’s day until I was driving home tonight. I carried the Pony Jack today for an important interview at work to bring me luck...it worked. Yesterday I had a Case 6318 on me. A new knife that arrived on Monday and my first 6318.

The knife on the right is a Frontier Imperial I believe. My grandpa was a farmer and it was one of his. He was my best friend growing up and I miss him daily. He definitely used his knifes!

SpErDoj.jpg

Those Frontiers are solid working knives. The black one was my Grandad’s. He taught me how to make a whistle with it out of a willow branch on the banks of the Mississippi River when we were fishing. He used his too. The other one, like your Grandad’s is a spare. Send me your address and it’s yours.

No, but the Alaskans think of it as the punchline to a joke. Thank you for your comment, Gary.

Not exactly a punchline, its just a little redundant to say small and Texas together...

Sorry! couldn't resist. :D

I'm a fan of RR, often look at the knives they make, and even have a couple of different RR whittlers. But I don't recall ever seeing that whittler pattern before; very cool!:thumbsup::cool:

Pretty creative mod on that Camillus!:):cool:

Thanks!
Yes, that RRider, is as far as I can tell pretty rare, I've never seen another of the pattern, nor another in smooth red bone.. I remember it was the only like it I'd seen when I go it, as close as I can figure that was about 12 years ago.

I got one of those when they were released because I was at the right place at the right time and I’d never had that pattern. I really didn’t expect to like it all that much, but boy was I surprised! It’s a fantastic little knife!

Thanks, GT! They should’ve made the pin scratch-n-sniff! :D

Now that’s green! :D :D

Nice work on the blade etch!

I went with this #74 for St. Patrick’s Day.

Three great-looking knives shown in your post Barrett :)

Thank you very kindly, Jack!!!

Your green boned 66 looks great with your Hartshead Barlow today; adding three bottles of Irish Whiskey and you're certainly stocked up for St. Patrick's Day, Cheers!:D:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks JJ, I have duplicates of the Jamesons and Bushmills! :D

I'm not actually carrying ANY of these for St. Patrick's Day, but I oughtta be! :D:D

Fine bunch of boyos there Gary, you just reminded me I have a green RR Canoe, which someone gave me a few years back :)

Too bad we aren't close enough to pour a dram and talk by a fire. Have a great day, Jack!

I'd enjoy that a lot Tony :) Hope you had a lovely time

Couldn't find any green wood covered totes so I'm going with these green boned Schrades. :)

Stunning Schrades JJ, in superb condition

Delightful duo, Jack; very cool "snap purse" for the ring-opener!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks buddy, those wee purses are very traditional with Sheffield knives :)

It's a great book, Jack.
It's all a collection of short stories, so you can invest as much time as you like.
He writes with great humor and insight. Being a fly fisherman yourself, you would enjoy it I'm sure.

It's a long time since I cast a line my friend, but the joy of it has never left me :)

Thanks Jack, much appreciated! Fine selection you have today as well (and a tasty looking selection of libations :) ).

These two with me today.

Thanks Tom, it's great having you back, with those fantastic pairings of yours :)

Back when stainless was a big deal. After having read some of the history of its birth I really appreciate owning and using this one.

Gorgeous Ed  I have a new Harry Brearley book on my reading pile :)

I slipped an Old Friend in my pocket last weekend, it's tiny, and has found a home for the time being - a Maserin Filiscjna. I used to carry this knife often, but it's been a while. I wish I knew what the word 'Filiscjna' meant! Carrying my Waynorth Lambsfoot too

My I share my first Copperhead; I have recently fell in love with Case knives and with my sons and my s-n-l all about Case it has been very rewarding! The beauty they bring is unparalleled. View attachment 1528048
Congrats on the bone stag copperhead!:thumbsup::cool:

An old pic of today's carry. Case - Bose Lock back Wharncliffe Whittler. A great knife I don't carry often enough.

Couple of well-designed precision tools, Gary!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Two for Tuesday

I, like many others, really like the arcs of your blade, Mark!:cool::thumbsup:

These two for me today.

Always a thrill to see your ebony BSK on the rocks, Tom!:cool::thumbsup:

That Camillus is a corker, Steve!:cool::cool:

I'm carrying a TC Barlow and Case Sodbuster, Jr. today.

Style and substance, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Two 2-blade knives for Tuesday. 4-1/4" Robt. Klass, single backspring with some sort of black wood covers and a Camillus EO with bone covers.
The Camillus found its way to me as a gift from a fellow porch member and arrived razor sharp and ready for carry. Thanks, Paul.

I'm usually a sucker for those simple old EO utility knives, but that shapely Klaas with a blade at each end caught my attention in this pair!:thumbsup::cool:

I carry today this French "Farol", in the shape of a whale.;)

This one always makes me smile with delight!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary, I've still not decided what I'm going to do with it in terms of finish, but I'm considering darkening the wood with coffee grounds. I've got a nice ferrule, and I'll add a wrist-strap for sure. The problems with my feet started about 25 years ago, and I'm afraid they're an ongoing problem, which have almost left me unable to walk in the past. I'm hoping the warmer weather makes things easier
...
Interesting plans for your stick, Jack.:cool::thumbsup: If you use coffee grounds to stain it, do you rub them onto the stick, or wrap the stick in a poultice of grounds, or what?
Sorry to hear about the chronic foot pain. :( I hope spring brings some relief.

Very attractive copper Otter, Will!:cool::thumbsup: I should look into something like that, since my Black Cat is probably my favorite lockback knife for both its lock and its spearpoint blade.

...
Thanks Gary, that’s a very clever way to use your slip!;)
...
It’s just an old Easter egg wreath that we’ve had for years. They look amazing real, we used to hide Easter eggs on it and they were always the last ones the kids found, until they were old enough to remember anyway!:D
Thanks, Todd :); I'm quite pleased with how that use of the slip is working out (although I might experiment with wearing it on the inboard edge of my LRP, to see which I prefer).
Never heard of an Easter egg wreath; I must live a sheltered life!

We will do our bst to keep you sharp with our brain games. ;)
...
It will take a village, John; I appreciate your efforts.:cool::) (I've been solving a couple of 6x6 Ken-Ken puzzles each day, but that's apparently not enough. ;))

Memorable photo!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
I've looked at knives from both sides now,
From mark and pile, and still, somehow,
It's knives' illusions I recall.
I really don't know knives at all!

Thanks Gary - that’s an AGR Pipe knife. This hobby was only harmful to my wallet, then I found the Pipe Knife:D.
Thanks for the ID.:) Pipe knives are kind of appealing to me, even though I haven't smoked a pipe since 1975.

Thanks, GT! They should’ve made the pin scratch-n-sniff! :D

Got to have a little green today.
View attachment 1528853
Cool knife!:thumbsup::cool: I was surprised to see the Camillus shield, though. I had the misconception that the green/yellow colors on your knife "belonged to" Remington.

That's an awesome green lineup of totes for St. Patricks Day; you'd need quite a sturdy belt to pocket all of those beauties!:eek::D:cool::thumbsup:
Thanks, JJ. :) If I were going to actually carry them all, I'd probably throw them in a fanny pack I have that I often wear diagonally across my chest.

Gary, that “a stroke of luck” canoe ROCKS:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, Gus. :)

Not carrying this but just adding it in for affect onSt. Patricks Day

That green Churchill is unforgettable, Harry!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couldn't find any green wood covered totes so I'm going with these green boned Schrades. :)
Festive pair for the holiday, JJ!:cool::thumbsup:

No, but the Alaskans think of it as the punchline to a joke. Thank you for your comment, Gary.

Thank you for your kind comments, Gary. Regarding Bliss thinking of Asimov's Foundation as "ancient" science fiction, I understand her comment. I'm old enough to be her grandfather and all three of the books in the original Foundation trilogy were written and published before I was born! :)

Thank you, Gary. The Hartshead Barlow is a fine Barlow.:thumbsup:
As always, I enjoy your insights, Dean!:cool::thumbsup:

My friend and I did our weekly walk today; I carried these three knives: Scratted TC Barlow, Rough Black Sodbuster, Jr and Sailor's Roap knife.

Terrific trio, Dean!:cool::cool: When I see a photo, I usually know whether or not I like it, but I often don't know why. I REALLY like your last pic, but I can't identify what features it has that appeal to me. Lighting??

...
That one really should be carried today, it's perfect for Saint Patrick's Day.:thumbsup:

Thank you, GT.
It definitely has favored status since it's a wonderful pattern, very hard to find, and my kids helped me pick it and design the recover.
:cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks Gary! The Expedition did that day. The Club didn’t like it much, but was a perfect Gentleman. I know...that was a really bad joke! :)

Thanks for the info and joke, Todd. :)
