What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

It was cool and rainy all last week, but the low pressure system repositioned itself and the wind is blowing down over the mountains. Spring Santa Ana. 83F and shorts today. Supposed to be back in the 60's later in the week.

So, knife for shorts: small tinker.

Might be my daily carry for a while, with occasional changes. I'm finding the combo of an Alox Cadet with a clip-blade Barlow works well for me. I have other knives floating around the apartment for times I need something other than these two. Also, need to get a good patina on the new Expedition.

And I need to get a few more cleaning sessions to finish getting the manufacturing crud out of the ledges. On this copy, there is a very slight difference in width between the bolsters and liners, and crud has collected at those spots. Some of it came off with the initial cleaning (you can see some of the remainder in this photo). Part of the reason why this one isn't quite as nice as the first one and will be my primary user.

Smoker is lit, have some huge chicken breasts to smoke and shred up for sammiches. My contribution to a little get together at my parents’ house. They have been holed up for too long.
Hope you had a great day with your folks - this year has been really tough on the old ones.

One of my all-time favorite knives... they are just so good! :cool::thumbsup:
Thanks partner!

One of my favorites. Absolute classic
Dependably snappy, that is for sure! OH

Still a great looking user, and a very nice photo.:thumbsup:

Your Schrade really speaks to me, Gary! :D
Dean, I don't know if you remember that I got 2 of those Uncle Henry medium stock knives almost simultaneously. ;):thumbsup: The one I posted was a user that I'd traded for from another BF member, and then the surprise NIB gift from you. The model definitely speaks to me as well!
Here's a photo I enjoy, showing the difference some use can make to the patina of the backsprings:

I'm carrying my one and only Farmer's Jack today.

That's a shapely knife, Dean! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

True... others can make their own decisions based on their own desires. :cool::thumbsup:
Sounds like anarchy! :eek::rolleyes:

Chexx this morning...

For today’s carry, another sharp beaut.

and a great day to all.
That's a superb stockman, Gus! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: (Might be an ancestor of the 897UH I've carried all week. ;))

Thanks! Big knife, Big Anniversary!
:):thumbsup::cool:

knocked the front hump off the spey blade... it was a hot spot when wood carving:

I like that purpose-driven blade mod! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

View attachment 1534467 Carrying the 15 boys knife today. Such a classic and simple pattern.
Amazing! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Clip/pen blade combo, barehead, classic color/jigging on the bone.

Captivating couple in black and white, Steve! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks! I ordered a few more RRs in white bone this week. You've got me thinking the equestrian knife with hoofpick should get adorned with Pegasus. The marlin spike mariner's knife is a whole other set of decisions...
Be sure to consider an "Under the Sea" montage from The Little Mermaid. (My daughter is of an age that guaranteed I'd watch that video with her countless times! :rolleyes:)

Carrying the Tribal Lock today.
In my recent CK order I threw in one of his magnetic pocket slips. I don't use slips very often. It was just a last second, "...that looks interesting..." kind of thing.

That DOES look interesting! :thumbsup::thumbsup:;) Thanks for showing the cool pics of the slip in action.

@5K Qs ~ thanks, Gary! And I’m relieved to hear you still recall something from Sunday school. I vividly remember the pastor’s cute daughter.:D
...
The kids flew home from Colorado so we could all celebrate my grandson’s 5th birthday. He loves hanging out with Papa, but I’m still trying to gain the trust of his little sister. She knows me just fine on videos chat, but I’m scary in person:eek:
I did succeed in getting her to play catch. Once I convinced her I could be trusted to toss the ball back, that is.:cool:[/user]
Jeff, I remember a surprising number of Sunday school songs, and used to sing them to our daughter while I was changing her diaper. (Not sure why I remember so many songs. I can open an old hymnal we used in church when I was a lad, and I'll know many verses of quite a few hymns I haven't sung for decades. And strange rock-and-roll lyrics pop into my head at odd times: just yesterday, for no apparent reason, I started singing "Come on Down to My Boat, Baby" by Every Mother's Son - it mentions a knife BTW. ;))

Playing catch with your granddaughter seems like a wise move. I have to confess that a high percentage of my so-called human relationships (and even some with dogs) have started out with playing catch! :D:thumbsup:

Stellar stag pair, José! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thank you, Gary. :thumbsup:

Case 47 whittler and a RR canoe for me today. I've had the Case for something like 1-2 yrs now and just started occasionally carrying it the past couple months, finding it to be a nice pattern and a decent knife for the most part. Getting some blade rub now that its being opened and closed for use. Main
blade is badly off center when closed, still a good functional knife though.

That 47 whittler is a new pattern to me; thanks for expanding my horizons, Greg! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Classy penknife! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Stupendous pair from Porch designers, Jack! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Today, my first real ‘ole blades:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Smoothest walk-talk a’round.

a great Saturday to all :):thumbsup::thumbsup:
Love the black-on-red synthetic covers on that one! :thumbsup::cool::cool: I have an old Holub electrician knife with similar handles.

One "user" and one "safe queen' :D
First-rate duo, John! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

My new TEW Lambfoot...it won’t be my last!

Congrats on the new TEW Lambsfoot, Todd! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: The translucent horn covers are beguiling!

Played a round of disc golf this morning, there is some knife maintenance (and basketball) on the schedule later. Farmer went disc golfing, then Dixie Stockman.

View attachment 1535036
In the old Western movies, sometimes the Farmers and the Stockmen didn't get along together, but looks like you've got them cooperating just fine! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

That is a notable knife, Gary. :thumbsup:
I'm carrying this Case Stockman today.

Thanks, Dean. :)
Your 47 looks superb in the spring sunshine! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Toting these two Swiss Scouts for Saturday. :)
I'll bet carrying those vintage SAKs makes you want to yodel, JJ! :thumbsup:;):thumbsup:

Thanks x2 Gary!
It’s listed (Schrade ss825) at 3” 9/16 of which is derived from the earlier 825 made from ‘53 to ‘70. Quite similar to the UH in many ways.
Yes, that Robeson’s scales are so mesmerizing in person! There’s the dark orange-red base, then these even darker streaks of red. It was a HTH (had to have) acquisition.

gettin’ ready for tomorrow a little early...
