What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I've wanted to own a Laguiole for several years now, but I always get lost in the maze of genuine vs. "genuine," steels, presence or absence of a kick, and so on. But this lovely Fontenille Pataud Laguiole popped up on the Exchange and simplified all of that. :)

It's Sandvik 12C27 stainless, which is perfect for me, with burled Walnut scales, filework, a forged bee, the traditional cross motif -- and a kick so I can close it like a careless gorilla, which is my default mode. ;)

You chose wisely. FP make outstanding knives.

Nice Score !!! ... Fontenille Pataud are my favorite Laguiole. And they are one of the very few that MAY allow you to "close it like a careless gorilla". I still walk mine down though, unless I'm not thinking about it. I have a Forge de Laguiole that WILL strike the back spring if snapped shut. You made a very fine choice !!!

You know, I'm glad you mentioned this! Because I checked again, and I think a full-strength snap may actually be dinging the edge right up near the tip. I shall have to learn a new skill and practice the art of delicate closure. ;)

Yep if they hit, that's generally where it is. Of course it could have come "sharpened" like that. Maybe take a look down in the blade well and see if you can see any marks on the back spring. And if it is (barely) hitting on hard closure, a good sharpening or two might take care of that.

I'm not going anywhere today except the dog house. When I had Cataract surgery Thursday, the discharge instructions said "no vigorous activities" for three weeks. Well, it gonna blow a snow storm later today and tomorrow so I told the wife she'd have to do all the snow shoveling. She's not exactly thrilled. That's okay - I've been in the dog house before and am quite prepared. I've put together a box of some of my Case Sod Buster and Case Sod Buster Jr. knives to play with and food's not a problem as I have put together some essential supplies.

I'll put the yellow, lower right, next to the grape jelly, Sod Buster Jr. to use should I need one in hand.

My experience is that stays in the Dog-House tend to be short, tempers mend fast :) If we were talking of the Out-House....that could be a different matter :D:eek::eek:

Looks like you're well set up mind, Sodbuster shows its enduring strengths  I've never had AMERICAN Peanut butter so I remain in a position of inferiority :( Nor Grape Jelly (Jam) either but it sounds good :) My favourite is Sour Cherry.

Take it easy, Dog-House or not.....

We have been under severe thunder storms and tornado watch all day today. And it's acting like it's about to start up again. My DSL Internet service has not been totally reliable.
Most of the day, it's just been me and this simple 151114 Huckleberry ... and a canid miscreant totally under foot because he DOES NOT like storms !!!

Thank you very kindly, Jack!!! That's super cool about your direct connection to that Sheffield made Schrade, an interesting partnership!:thumbsup:
Btw, your stag version looks wonderful!

Looks like you've had a stretch of the legs out in the countryside; outstanding combo for pretty much anything!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks buddy, there's quite a story behind those knives  We have been enjoying some very pleasant weather recently, and it was nice to get out :) Some more pics in the Guardians thread

Thank you, Jack. :)

Cool stag, kinda half stripe and half popcorn.:thumbsup:

Thanks pal, and gifted that one to @Old & In The Way a couple of years back :) Sure hope he comes back one day
