What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks, JB!
Someone asked me if I prefer my catfish fried or baked. I said yes.

He does nice work. Lovely knife.

Beautiful old knife!

Yes, Bruce. Life is good.
And the skeleton on my plate says it was a good supper, too.
And there is enough for three more meals for 3 in the freezer. :)

Happy 44th to you and your bride, my friend. You are 3.75 years ahead of us.

And I’ll wager it has filleted a few fish in those 29 years!

You are so right about Ambassadeur fishing reels. I guess they are my favorite Swedish imports. I have two 5000s, and a 6500C.
Yeah, the Winchester Toothpick has dressed a fish or two. As far as the Ambassador Reels, I have them from 7000s down to 5000s and use the big ones for catfish and the smaller for trolling for trout and walleye; I have a couple Royal Express III that I use for muskie. Sometimes I even catch the “dreaded green trout” —-large mouth bass that is. Lol

I enjoyed your explanation of shell handled Imperial and Hammer Brand knife construction. I really like Imperial knives and have a lot of respect for them and the manufacturing capacity of Imperial in its heyday.

You mentioned the springs and actions, and I agree. Of the dozens of Imperials I have handled and owned, I’ve always found them to have good heat treatment. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a good American made knife for $3 again!

Been an office day so far, but taking my wife out to a nice dinner tonight for our 44th. I'm going to dress a bit better than usual, so a light pocketknife that wears well in slacks (but can cut the inevitable string off my wife's button, etc.) is in order. The Case 6308 Whittler gets the honor. OH

Congratulations on 44 years Bruce, that is truly something to be proud of! 👏😎👏

Thrifty Thursday ...
Thrift Store find. Wood, Brass and Stainless Spear Point (3 5/32" closed).
This thing is sharp, but not sure about edge retention yet.
No idea what kind of wood but would probably guess wrongly, India Rosewood or Padauk.
The knife is made out of China though ... says so on the pile side of the blade tang.
It isn't a bad two dollar knife. I actually rather like this little knife. It's better than the used price would indicate.

That's a deal! You should see the junk knives at the emporium near me going for 5 and 10 bucks. They are so bad I wouldn't even try to bargain with them.

NewBlades16 NewBlades16 ... folks here at the thrift shop know little about knives.
They do lower the price about every month if a knife doesn't move.
They're happiest when they have some "Old Timer" knives. That's high end to them. Lots of collectors of those around I guess.
I've yet to see ANYTHING that would be considered anything but a second hand user ... if it even happens to be fully functional with no broken springs etc.
I guess my point is that it is mostly all junk ... but I always look when I go by there and strangely (or not) it makes me happy to do so.

Superlative pair of "old Friends" slicers for Friday, Jack; a burly Big Un Lamb and a cool and classic old Boker should meet all your cutting needs nicely!
Thanks JJ, the 3 of us got worked hard yesterday  :D
Toting these two old friends made by Robeson in the 1920s-30s. :)
Two striking Robesons my friend :)

Congrats! Here's to the next 44!
Thank you Tyson!
That is still beautiful.
Do you even use it? ;)
Yes, but it isn’t a heavy duty knife - always have a Buck 110, 112, Case Hammerhead, etc. for heavy duty use. The pocketknives I really cherish get treated gently.
Nice knife choice today Bruce and Congrats to you and your Wife for holding it together for 44 years my friend .
Thanks my friend.
