What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I was looking at that same Case just a few days ago. I’m trying to hold myself back while I consider a fixed blade I have my eyes on too
May as well just get both of them. You know you will anyway! 😄👍
Today Ive got an opinel No6 with me out doing yard work. Great value for the price.

Totin’ my Jess Horn user. Around 50 years old, and it still cuts! One of my most useful and ergonomic knives. It is a pleasure to carry, and the sambar has aged well. This pattern is called the Middle Horn. It was designed by Bob Loveless for Jess. The blade shape has not been changed by sharpening. It is the same basic blade shape that Loveless used for his Stiff Horn fixed blade, which I guess might be named after Jess. Unfortunately, the two of them are not here to tell
us. Along with Tony Bose, they were the best knife makers ever!

Have a great week everyone!

Rose and Thistle Custom Rose and Thistle Custom , that is a great looking Benchmade you posted a few pages ago. Beautiful work on that handle. Congratulations!

Bart, Sacto Sacto , I chuckled when I read your comment about not needing two spey blades. Out of all of us, you are one of the few that could actually use a spey for its intended purpose! Which type of knife do you use to castrate calves?

I still find the Pen more useful than a nail-file! :D
Seems there’s not much love around here for the nail file. I actually use it a fair amount and prefer it to a second spear blade.

What’s in the mason jar? Looks interesting.

I’m with you Sacto, I like the nail file also. I don’t really use my secondary blades that often. Since I’ve been on a SAK kick lately my nails look better than ever! The next time my wife goes for a manicure I’m going to hand her one of my new Cadets!
😂😂😂

Is that some kind of witch's brew?
They are nice, they just seem so darn small I only ever carry it on the weekends.
The #14s make a great second carry knife for the watch pocket.
But I agree, they are a little small for a primary use knife. I prefer something a little bigger.
Nice knives.
Thank you. :)
I wouldn’t know what to do with a double Spey.
Heck, I hardly know what to do with a second blade, much less an identical one. But it makes for a nice conversation starter. 🤣

But you like combs on your knives, so... ;)

You and Sacto must be well-groomed. ;)
I would prefer it be a punch like on the Pioneer.

Just a michelada or a red beer.

It is funny, I don’t think I’ve ever used a Spey blade to cut a calf. I’m not too picky, usually if we are processing I’ll just grab a couple knives for the day that seem sharp. Sometimes it’s this small fixed blade.

Sometimes it’s a Case stockman, maybe a hayn helper. If I have a stockman I’ll use the clip or sheepsfoot. I’m not sure why I don’t use the Spey. I’ll have to make a point to try it this spring.

Typically I do most of the branding and my partner does most of the cutting. He uses one of those folding knives with a replaceable scalpel blade.

Seems I always have dirt under my nails, so I use the point of the file to clean them. I know, gross. 😝 The file is good for snagged nails, too.

It sparked a lot of conversation on here.

Now that you mention it...nail files, combs...maybe I should give up on knives and find a grooming forum. 😁

Very tantalizing treat with your Hartshead beauty and adding you super cool, uber slicey Puukko looks like a fun and relaxing Sunday! :thumbsup:

Toting my other German made, stag covered pocket hog today. :)
Thanks a lot JJ, I always enjoy seeing that multi-bladed marvel  :)
Very nice, especially the French one with horn scales! The small clip point blade was originally intended as a scraping blade with which officers in the Swiss Army could erase their writting mistakes. That's why the old Victorinox ones have more of a belly to them. The Wengers are pointier, like the one on the yellow German knife you posted. I find it interesting because it's a different approach to the issue than with American office knives, which originally had a sort of spey, corn or grafting type of blade for this purpose although those too were later mostly replaced by pen blades.

You know I used to fancy the 85 mm Wengers having a nail file but now I just feel naked with a knife that doesn't have at least one big and one small blade ... 😅
Thanks Isk, both for the compliment, and for that fascinating piece of history  I travelled a lot with a Wenger World Scout Knife, and I sometimes found a use for the nail-file blade, but every time I used it, I always wished it was a Pen blade :D
Great pairing Taylor

Fair enough :)

LOL! :D Yeah, I get by fine with a single blade I guess :D Punch would be good, though I do find the small Pen blade useful. A Clip or a small Sheepsfoot, like on the Electrician would be better

When I was a mechanic, my nails got filthy, but I'd clean them with the point of my knife :D

LOL! :D No need to leave Bladeforums - https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/razors-scissors-personal-grooming.785/ :D ;)

Wishing everyone a safe and happy week

Is that a modded Ram’s foot? I’m having trouble wrapping my head around it, Northfield blade, F&F pivot, but the kick is different from the normal rams foot.
Not quite, I was lucky enough to win it in glennbad glennbad 's giveaway not too long back :) If you missed the thread, I'm not surprised it has you puzzled! :D A pretty special knife

No... Why do that when you can have both?
And about Spey blades... Same here, I don't think I've ever used a Spey blade on animals.
For cattle, it was whatever was in my pocket. For pigs, it was always a scalpel.
Nice pairing, Jack. 🤠
I find a good Clip Point blade pairs well with my Lambsfoot blades.
