Check this out~ my Dad’s Handbok for Boys, printed June, 1946. Amazing all the fun things they did without putting their eyes out or ending up in jail!

I thought of you when I saw a graph comparing this one to Katrina. This one has sustained winds 25 mph higher. Of course, what made K. so bad was how it just sat there and rained. And it’s surge.
Here’s hoping this one blows right on through without stalling...
GOOD LUCK!
It’s great you still have that treasure. It’s amazing how things used to be compared to how they are now. When I was the archery director at summer camp and during the Order of the Arrow Tapout Ceremony, I shot flaming arrows into the lake when they called the names of the Ordeal Candidates. Can you imagine doing that now!

I hear that!!! 😢
It's currently ripping through my 4x4 club's adopted trail in Strawberry.
I helped re-open that trail after years of neglect and being forgotten by the 4x4 community.
Also, Silver Fork is one of my Go-To spots for fly fishing... not to mention an absolutely beautiful spot.
Yep Silver Fork has given me a ton of great memories fishing with friends and my dad. Strawberry is just beautiful or was beautiful it’s a miniature Yosemite…😖😖😖

I made it to First Class... and then just enjoyed the learning, camping, and games... I kind of forgot about advancements after that.
Same for me. One of my few regrets in a very blessed life. My troop wasn’t strong, but man did we have fun!! One of my favorite memories was being at a jamboree during the height of the ‘streaking’ craze. One of my idiot Troop-mates decided to ‘liven’ up the opening campfire by streaking through the circle of about 150 campers. Unfortunately, he ended his adventure in a patch of poison ivy!!😜🤪 Thanks for rekindling some very fond memories!

Totin’ this whittler as we ride out Hurricane Ida. At this point, the eye of the storm is only about 25 miles to my west! I have the horses and dogs bedded down. It is going to be a long night! I love Louisiana, but this place is not for the faint hearted. At least it is never boring!

Thanks for the good wishes Yann and Andrew, @Corto_Malt , NewBlades16 NewBlades16 .
Prayers are with you, your family and everyone down there. Stay safe my friend!

This is my camp equipment from back in the day; I never had an official BSA knife, but I still have this Imperial Kamp-King Knife, Bridgeport Official Scout Ax, and BSA Official Match Safe as well as most of my other BSA equipment. It brings back a lot of great memories from my youth.

Cool tools. 👍 That camp axe has seen some use!

I hope everything ends up okay for you. Stay safe.
These two! Caldor Fire continues to be a threat locally. It’s going to drastically change the landscape in some of my most beloved places in the mountains. 😪

We’ve been watching that fire grow every day. One of my family’s favorite spots is the Carson Pass area. I’m hoping it doesn’t make it over there but it’s not looking good. Also hoping where we ski at Sierra gets spared, but also not looking good. ☹️

Indeed it has!

Yep we Love Silver Lake and Caples. Was actually up there last weekend watching the bombers drop retardant towards the north. Looks like it’s about a mile from Sierra and 3 miles to Silver lake. 🙏

Totin this Schrade Fire & Ice Trapper today as we go by the sister-in-law's house to drop off her birthday present and then head out to the Brass Rail for their Sunday Brunch Special "Steak & Eggs". If I cut the steak up in itty-bitty pieces, my swallow can handle it.

Funny, I have a very similar photo (from my photo imitation GAW a few couple ago). 😁

Boys? Those are clearly men, can’t you see they have mustaches?! 😉😁

Never was a Boy Scout myself. Instead, we had R.A.’s, which was sort of like the Southern Baptist version of Boy Scouts. I’ve probably had this knife longer than any other. Always makes me think of my dad.

A pair of super slicers for your Sunday, Jack; love the gnarly stag covers on your SFO lambsfoot! :thumbsup:

Toting this stag covered Puma today. :)
Thank you very much JJ, that's a great-looking Puma, and the stag is stunning

That's very sad gents :(

Hope nobody has been badly affected by Ida. Got a holiday here today. Carrying a Rosewood Lambsfoot, had a few of these made up a few years back, better fit and finish, and a polished blade. Have a good week everyone

Thanks! I got it here on the exchange in a bundle. I’m very happy with it. Good finish, surprisingly strong pull, especially the secondary blade.
Sounds like a great little canoe!:thumbsup::cool:

Laguiole La Clef des Champs for this Saturday. Have a nice day. :)
Laguiole Fontenille Pataud in walnut wood today.
...
Your Laguioles are such slender, elegant knives when open!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
(I wish they didn't have such a tall, sharp tang corner sticking out when closed.)

Your stag Churchill is superb!:cool::thumbsup:

3 Es to live by, Rachel: Ebony Equal End!!:cool::thumbsup:

Schradurday or Stagurday?

Yes.

2138, and 881Y

Have a fine day:)

Your big stag clip point looks fantastic by the stony squirrel, Jeff!:cool::cool:

Heading out the door in a few minutes for vacation, have several knives in the car to rotate around (all car knives) but I have a 6318 in my pocket. OH
...
A few of the car knives - from a penknife to a folding hunter - think I'm covered.
...
Have a safe and enjoyable vacation, Bruce; mighty fine collection of knives you're taking with you!:thumbsup::cool:

Two new ones today, a 44 and a Baby Bullet

EcCNyXA.jpg
Congrats on your new gunstock and Bullet, Steve!:thumbsup::cool:

Cool photo!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Vic Explorer? Is that a lanyard clipped to the SAK connecting you to the knife?

Well, Gary, given that your lovely wife knows of your KAS (knife acquisition syndrome), that timing thing might not be entirely innocent.
Thanks for the Voos comment as well as the photos!
Maybe not entirely innocent, but it's complicated. She usually has a list of 4-6 quilt/knitting/fabric stores she wants to visit on the trip out or the trip home. But we started so late on the first day that all but one of her shops were already closed by the time we got to them, and many weren't open yet when we passed them on our race home (still managed to stop at one quilt store on the way home, though).

Three satisfying knives!:cool::thumbsup: Does the top one (stockman) have fake stag covers? It looks like Staglon, but it's obviously not a stainless Uncle Henry.

Cool Sodbuster... I love the name and the etch. 🤠
Thanks, John; having grown up on a dairy farm, I'm drawn to a knife with a bovine etch, even though Angus isn't a dairy breed. 🤓 (Certainly better for my purposes than a Brown Mule model, which I think is another Klaas sodbuster-style knife.)

Schrade Cut Co Congress and a Sta-Sharp Cattle knife

View attachment 1629259
That cattle knife is charismatic!:cool::thumbsup:

I got my first MAM last year and I like it a lot. I just wish they did a carbon steel version like Opinel.
Yeah, a carbon steel MAM would be cool, but I kind of appreciate the "easy care" aspect of my stainless knives.;)

Those AG Russell spearpoint lockback Barlows are pretty sweet, Mike!:cool::cool: I think they're discontinued now?

Some stag for Saturday.

xH5mBWh.jpg
Stellar stag!:thumbsup::cool: Is that a 25 EO?

Great pictures Gary, the one of the upper Tahquamenon Falls caught my eye. My wife and I visited those falls almost 30 years ago! 😊
Love the bigger Alox SAK. I can’t get over how snappy it is and it feels great in the hand. 👍
Thanks, Todd. :) I think the first time we vacationed in the U.P., our daughter was nearing her second birthday, so that was 31 years ago. Did you hike the 4-mile trail between the upper and lower falls when you were there? 30 years ago that trail was much more rustic and challenging than it is now. I remember we tried taking our daughter with us on the trail in her stroller. We didn't get very far before we gave up, and I had mud up to my knees already. We ended up with me hiking the trail one direction alone, meeting wife and daughter on the other end, and then my wife hiked it alone the other direction and daughter and me were waiting for her with the car at the other end.
Now there's a pretty nice brewery/restaurant at the Upper Falls. https://www.tahquamenonfallsbrewery.com
I really like the Black Bear Stout and the pastie that I ordered there a 3 weeks ago!:thumbsup:

Some interesting new acquisitions Gary :) Papa Andi contacted Klaas for me, in relation to those Black Angus knives, about a decade ago, and Klaas made it clear that they are nothing to do with them, and that they simply took some cash to allow their name to be used

Hope everyone is having a great weekend  Carrying one of my Lambsfoot SFOs again today, and Charlie's outstanding Black Jack :) Have a nice Sunday folks

Thanks for the interesting info about the Black Angus sodbuster, Jack.:cool:
Phenomenal pair of knives for you; I always enjoy your Jack/Charlie pairings!:thumbsup::cool:

Yeah. At one point my nurse had to dash off to recieve an ambulance, leaving me with a tray piled with needles and ampoules to contemplate.
Less than ideal IMHO! o_O

Thanks for the kind words my friend :) I still enjoyed the chilli, but I needed to take a shower, get changed, and drink a lot of beer after! :D
🤓😄
