What would you like to see us make next?

I would love to see a packrat with an SS handled frame lock, (i say ss instead of TI to keep the costs down) G-10 inlays, deep cary pocket clip and VG-10.

What I would really like to see/buy 2 of is :
A ZT style work over for the folding field or wildcat ridge. G10 inserts, large thumb studs, subbdued but not bead blasted coatings on blades and bolsters, and adjustable pivots. Also with a small patch of file like texture on the blade for two handed opening and mabe shove a spring bar in for an assisted opening. Served up in a Leather Molle compatible pouch. Sort of redneck tech meets future weapons.

I personally would like to see a knife that is made in the US factory, is of top rate construction, reeks of quality, that everyone can afford, and it sells in huge volume.

I know, call me killjoy.

Isnt that what you guys already do?

"A Shallot with a Boron Random Shaped Blade; call it Perfection."

Oh YEAH baby!!!!!!!

Compact but strong 3.5 inch bulletproof folder made of G10, or better yet micarta, or even steel plus Vascowear ( cru ware) or CPM 3V blade. The lock would have to be strong enough for a blade that can engrave steel I-beams ( vascowear can do this without damage). Preferably full flat ground with moderately strong tip.

Carbide window breaker on grip.

Not sexy but it should sell considering people are always clamoring for the strongest knives they can buy. Joe

Fixed blade, definitely a fixed blade, and a totally new model. The ZT FB examples are nice but I'd like to go for something a little less tactical looking. Something that can work hard but still has great looks, like a Scott Cook Owyhee. Perhaps not that high end but you get what I mean. Nice 3.5" to 4" drop point or clip point blade, micarta handles, maybe with bolsters and polished handles as options. Make the blade out of 13C26 with a nice satin finish.

Yeah....that'd be #1 on my Kershaw wish list.

I have always liked the quality of Kershaw's knives but am not very fond of SpeedSafe. I think a slimmer, non-speedsafe knife with a very minimalist aesthetic (similar to that of the Leeks) would be a nice option. Also, I'd like to see the Cyclone's feature where you can select manual or SpeedSafe on a slimmer knife like the Shallot as well.

Well since the big guy is listening I might as well throw one out there too:

A Speed Safe Leek in a LARGER size. S30v blade NOT 440A

I think, that Kershaw really needs a new, unique, high end knife, in the $140-+ range. Something with a premium steel, such as S30V or something new and cool, made in the USA, for an EDC appealing to those that normally don't come Kershaw's way... something like this:

25218.jpg

A stabilized wood for the handle perhaps (I love the look of rosewood - with it's occasional red and purple streaks -, such as can be used on a guitar, but I don't know what that might cost to use, though I see you have used Koa, which can also be found on some guitars)?? Micarta with a bolster would be a bit similar to the Spyderco Schempp designs, but you could make the bolster out of titanium and cut and anodize 2 golden lines and 1 line of blue into it, for a subtle touch of awesome. I think that the people this knife would appeal to probably prefer having a thumbstud, so you could do something really fancy, and basically give a production knife the feel and look of a custom!

P.S.: The idea behind my thought is that Kershaw seems to have a lot of wide handled knives, that may turn a lot of people off, and while there is the Leek, it has relatively cheap steel, with only the occasional high end variant. It is also a very plain looking knife, and I think that the Spite would be a good, other side of the pillow, in terms of Kershaws of that general size.

I finally jumped ship on Benchmade after many years... And came over to Kershaw after buying a JDII about a year ago.... Those super fat liners and high ground blade were what ive been looking for for some time..... Im surprised that Ken Onion actually reads these forums and thats a nice change from benchmade.... A company who seems to make one knife after another that seem to serve the same purpose..... I like Chef Knives so much i made a Kydex sheath for an old forged carbon steel 8 inch F.dick for field carry...... After years of Emailing Benchmade {to no avail} for a folder with a High Flat grind from top to bottom shaped like a chefs blade imagine my surprise when i found the Cyclone....... LOVE....... What i would like to see are two selections..... A full Size Cyclone with a Framelock Titanium Handle... And i think there is a market for a supersize folder...Like the discontinued Camillus Cuda Max.... Something along the lines of 6 inches closed with a 5 inch blade.... Maybe shaped like the old Marbles Woodcrafter... High Grind convex edge with lots of Belly... Or perhaps a high flat ground Scimitar like some of my old Butcher Knives...{those things CUT}... a blade about 4.5 to 5 inches, 1.25 wide.... Put it in a Ti Framelock curved in the back to swallow that Scimitar blade.... Im not a huge fan of the Recurve blades as i like easy sharpening shapes... I wish that the quest to reinvent the wheel would slow down a bit.... My problem with benchmade was that everything seemed like it was a futuristic crowbar serving the same purpose..... Thick blades with Shallow Hollow grinds... I WANT TO SLICE not HACK.... carry a wood chisel in a kydex sheath if thats what you want.... Apparently there is alot of Armchair Warriors out there....... Blade grind and thickness of edge determine the kind of sharpness you can attain..... thinner edges resharpen quicker and take a keener edge....

So far i own the Kershaw Cylone 1630, JDII,Original Leek, and a new Skyline 1760.... All great blades with excellent fit and finish..... Carried that Cyclone alot...

Speaking of the Sebenza.... I think the reason it is so popular is the simplicity of design and execution...... Its a KNIFE... Simple and USeable..... I dont see the harm in making one for the masses...... Maybe a Larger Skyline with Ti framelock and a premium blade...

Maybe a line of Ti Knives with a simple ergonomic shape sans finger grooves, maybe a gentle choil near the front, Simple blade shape, Wide and Flat Ground top to bottom.... Make it in three different sizes.. 3.5 inch handle....4.75 handle...... and 5.75 to 6 inch handle version....

Call it the Hobart.... {For slicing machine}.....

Final word...... Im very impressed that Kershaw is able to make what if feel is a better knife then benchmade at half the price..... And make it Here...... Keep em coming....

ken....i'd like to see a high grade gentleman's knife.....a nice blade steel like zdp-189......a super thin blade.....nice wooden handle....assisted opening....maybe a small leather sheath with a kershaw logo on it.....sort of along the lines of a william henry but kershaw cool......ryan

I second that, but make mine with a reversible pocket clip--I have one of the WH's with sheath ('clipcase')--it adds way too much weight--half again as much as the knife alone. I'm fine with the idea if you can find a lightweight material to use. AO for those who wish, but offer a manual w/ super smooth opening, for those of us who like things simple, like the truth.

But the idea is great, basically a WH with liner/frame lock, flipper, and optional AO. And definitely  on the zdp blade--maybe it could be composite w/ zdp edge as well..

The Shallot is basically a larger Leek. They even reduced the amount of recurve so the blade would be closer to the Leek's.

And I agree with Habit about the size. Shallot/Leek sized knives are generally easier to EDC versus the ZT0200 and other behemoths. At least it's easier for those of us who wear khakis or dress slacks to work. If I could wear jeans, then I could EDC my Tyrade more often

I kinda like that thought, and I actually really like simple designs like the Sebenza. If you could come even close for 50% less I think you would have a really hot seller. Go for this!

I also would like a fixed blade or two, not uber tactical I don't think. Maybe even make the same knife in two sizes, one larger 3-4" blade and make a smaller pocketable fixed blade. I would love to have a pocketable blade, with a sheath made for pocket use. I have seen a few, but have yet to find one affordable enough for me to jump on. I found a seller/custom maker making a nice one for about $100 either here or the other knife forum and forgot to bookmark it and have never found it again. Now I'm hoping for a Kershaw!

I think that Kershaw does have a pretty good sounding group here, and I'm glad they are using us this way!

Shallot has a Wharncliffe blade config?
Shallot is a frame lock - Leek is a liner lock.

I also dont care much for the aluminum handles, I should have been specific about the handles too - The G10 imo is much better.

A Shallot sized Leek is what I should have said

I would love to see a more impressive and lighter damascus pattern on the Kershaw Leek.

I'd like to see some Kershaw folders with nested Toggle Locks (keeping the 13C26 blade steel that makes the 1900 External Toggle so much fun when cutting, of course!) - they'd be Internal Toggle knives!

And butterfly knives, too. Butterfly versions of the Junkyard Dog and Groove would be super uber awesome!

I think SV mentioned it in the flat ground thread, but I think you should really consider doing the Melee as a production knife.

I like your thinking KD.
You could make a standard SS frame lock with 13C26 or 14C27N and
maybe sprint runs with a Ti frame lock with VG10, S30V or CB's.

I've been dreaming of this knife every since the pic below was posted
on the Onion forums.

Thanks for your time and listening to us all Ken, Thomas and all the folks at Kershaw.

I want a Melee!!!
Ken, your a big guy....break someones arm's if ya have to. ;)

It's the one on top for any that don't know.

Wow, it feels like I'm meeting a celebirty. I love Kershaw's and especially those done by yourself.

One thing I would like to see is FEWER recurves. There are quite a few knives out right now that I would love to buy but do not because of the recurve blades.

Of course ideally you could offer the knives with 2 blade styles so that everybody can get what they want :D

How could I have not thought of mentioning that! A Ken Onion balisong, throw some speed safe on there... an AO latch, composite blade, crazy handle designs...
