What would you Think or Say when you see...

I'd just be glad to see someone else carrying a knife.

I keep a Vic Manager on my keychain and an XM-18 on my belt. Both have their uses.

... non knife anthusiast equiped with just an ordinary Swiss Army Knives...

I'd probably think "Cool" 'cause they're carrying a knife. I often carry a SAK of one kind of another along with my Benchmade and Spyderco. Got an Executive on me right now. :)

i've had my pocket pal in my pocket more often this month than my sebenza... i keep it hair-peeling (beyond whittling) sharp, and it does everything i need it to now schools started.

I usually look to see if it is a real SAK or a knock off.

If it is the real deal I might compliment them on there choice of cutlery.

If it is a knock off I would give them grief.

...I would think they are a sensible person...and perhaps strike up a conversation about which model they have and show them my Vic Trekker...

a) hello MacGuyver!
b) mind if i have a look?
c) wanna see what i've got?
d) i hope you don't ever board a plane with that "known terror weapon"...

Typically I would ask to take a peek at it. Ask them about it to see if they are knowledgeable past the brand name.

I then slowly engage my love for knives and how expansive the hobby really is! :foot:

In other words I slowly infect the poor victim with knowledge he'd never thought he'd acquire.

Once having a successful conversation on how awesome knives are in general and how they've advanced I slowly let the newly infected victim drift to be consumed by the illness. :D

Hi Iyonk -

I always have a Vic Waiter in my left front pocket.

I would just note that there is another "knife guy", and maybe talk to them about pocket knives.

best regards -

so when you see it in use, what would cross your mind or what would you say to them?

-nice knife?
-dude, you should upgrade your knife to blablabla...bla.. ( x brand)
-its kindda cool and i used to like it before becoming knife addict...
-thank God i'm not stuck with SAKs!

I probably wouldn't say anything, but I would think "Smart choice buddy".

It need not be an "either or" situation....

A real knife guy can enjoy knives with superior blade-steel, one-hand-opening, G-10 scales, pocket-clip, and titanium liners, but can also enjoy the humble Swiss Army Knife.

I wouldn't say anything either.
However it kinda makes me feel good if I see someone else carrying a SAK.
Proves that I'm not the only "fool" carrying a knife.
Especially in knife fobic Netherlands:barf:
A while ago I was at my buddy's and he had an electrician at work installing a thermostate for the heating.
To my surprise he was using a beat up silver DAK.

And after a period of collecting Spyderco's with top notch steel and ergo's, I can say that I'm happy to get along with just my trusty silver Farmer and black Classic.
Much more affordable, so I'm not afraid to use them.

I used to baby my Spydies big time and used a Spartan I had in my back pocket for any real cutting.
Go figure.

Great thread Yvonk:thumbup:

I'd say "Nice knife". Flatground blade, good steel. If you lose it, pick up another and no tears shed.

Swiss Army Knives are some great knives and I still carry mine even though I have some $300.00 + knives. SAK and Old Timers are what got me started back in the day and I still love them.

Flatground, good steel, nice fit & finish. Good knives IMO. Plus if you loose it buy another and no tears shed.

I would say they are using a great knife. Everyone should have at least a couple. My favorites are the classic SD and the Tinker. No need to upgrade, unless you want something with a higher wear resistant steel.
