What would you Think or Say when you see...

Seeing someone with a SAK I'd be thinking "I wish more people would carry a SAK". Honestly it should be a law that you should own & carry a SAK or Multi-Tool at a minimum - there are too many people walking around without even the most basic of tools.

I EDC a Victorinox Cybertool and have been doing so for about a decade - it is such a useful tool, especially with how sharp I keep the blades. Between that and the Leatherman Wave that I also EDC I feel decently equipped.

i honestly would say nice knife, because in my opinion it is. i own benchmades, spydercos, sog, kershaw, zt, basically a little bit of everything. and while i may carry one of my more expeensive folders with me, i always have my trusty sak cadet with me. why? because it is light, cuts as good as any knife i have ever used( better than most to be honest) and it just works. it may not be uber cool or tactical, but thats not what im looking for, im looking a good blade that will cut what i need it to, and be there when i need it to be

Take a look at the EDC thread and you'll see a LOT of people--including me--carry a fancy knife and a SAK and I bet most of 'em use the SAK more often.

If they have a knife they are more prepared than a lot of the population. I would probably ask them how they liked it.

Rule Number one: Always have a knife

If someone is carrying a Victorinox they're probably already a gear junkie.
Around where I live you're more likely to see a Leatherman.

I regularly carry both on top of my regular ultimate mega folder (like the M-4/Ti/G-10 Military).

I would say (and have said), "Nice knife. Is that an actual Swiss Army Knife, or one of the knock-offs? Which model is it?"

Then, while we were discussing it, I would pull the Silver Alox Farmer Swiss Army Knife I carry out of my pocket, and show it to them. I probably wouldn't mention the Spyderco Salt 1 that's nearly always clipped to the same pocket that nearly always holds my SAK, unless they proved to be a real knife enthusiast, too.

I imagine we'd discuss how useful a good SAK can be, an what a great value they are. I'd make sure to work in a compliment on how important it is to always have a pocket knife handy, to help positively reinforce their EDCing of a knife.

I've got dozens (and dozens) of knives, and many (maybe most) of them are mid to higher end knives with exotic super steels. Doesn't mean that I don't still keep my SAK with me as part of my EDC setup, though. It may not be the first thing I grab when I just need a pure blade, but it does get plenty of use for everything else.

Pretty much this. I EDC a SAK or two along with a one-handed folder. They are the most bang for the buck for the average city dweller, IMO. The other tools get more use than the blades do, but I use everything on the Tinker. And the Classic on my keys.

Half of the times i draw my SAKs are for using other tools than its blade... screwdrivers, tweezers, toothpick, scissors got used alot... but the blades does cut very2 well...

I would appreciate seeing someone carrying a pocketknife, and even more appreciate that he carries something with a good price/quality ratio. I would ask to see and handle it and talk about my own 19 year old dutch infantery standard issue aluminium scale SAK. I hope I stop talking about knives before I bore them to pieces.

i honestly wish i could see your DAK... it surely got plenty of character and millions of stories about what it had done...:)

I usually tell them that those are great knives to carry and I show them my Classic I have on my key ring. The scales cracked and broke off so there are no tweezers or tooth pick, I made some crude replacement handles with some Kydex scrap.

If it's made by a reliable company and not a knock off my first thought would be "Good taste". Sometimes my Vic explorer is all I carry.

Sometimes my Vic explorer is all I carry.

just bought an older version of explorer with mineral glass magnifier... the newer actually works good, but i really diggin' the older profile look!

explorer is kindda thick, but its surely well selected tools, and very2 usefull companion... good choice buddy...

who cares what kind of knife it is, if they routinely carry a knife with them, they are one of us!

besides, SAKs are awesome!

Truthfully, I'd probably compliment someone even if they were carrying a knockoff. At least they are making the effort to carry a knife of some sort.

I just complement someone i just know today, he carry a small silvertech with LED SAK, put it in a small sheath attached to his belt... i told him thats he got good taste, and i told him that he must be a handy man... he said thanks, and after some chat he actually a handy man!... i really impressed how that small 58mm swiss army knife could serve him so well...

Well, it does not have too many great stories. It is a 1991 knife that I bought as army surplus in 1991. This resembles my own dutch army career, I was army surplus about 5 hours after I entered the army examination building. We still had obligatory military service those days. My vintage was almost altogether excused but we still had to pass thet tests. Passed the test but I was not wanted.

The knife has been edc for some time during my studies, the KL (royal army) got changed into KB (my initials, I vaguely remember using a darts arrow to improve the original engraving). The blade is convexed and polished and bl**dy sharp. Still I often dig the thing out if I need to drill a hole in something, the awl is great.

OK, I also think that by now you understand what I wrote about "hope to stop talking about pocket knives before I bore them to death." Sorry 'bout that.

I have many, many much more expensive knives than my alox SAK Soldier, yet it is as often in my pocket as all the rest combined, simply because it is very useful, adequately performing, and non-agressinve looking around non-knife-people.
