What'd all you Hogs attend school for?

Man, ANOTHER physicist... who would have thought so many of us would be into high quality knives??

Cliff Stamp is a PhD physicist... of course, some folk would not want to claim him as one of their own. I appreciated the rigor he brought to his testing and reviews.

I feel for Cliff, big time... you can tell he's an experimentalist at heart, and I'm sure he realizes the limitations of his testing from a standpoint of reproducibility, but I love the guy for having fun beating the crap out of some blades.

Sometimes when I'm in lab, I just want to destroy every piece of equipment I see. I understand why he would want to break knives for a hobby :D :D :D Talk about catharsis....

After Highschool I spent my twenties drinking, smoking, traveling, and goofing around. I found myself in Las Vegas for a few years parking cars, awesome money (maybe too much) because i put off education even longer:)

Then i met my wife. Followed her on her quest for a PhD in Philosophy and finally went back to school myself.

2/3 of the way through a BA, Film and Media Studies degree (Screenwriting) with a minor in Art History.

it's funny though... even if i went on to get a PhD like my wife i dont think i will ever make more money than i did as a Valet Attendant on the strip.

Now i drive Transportation for a local hotel and attend classes with people 15 years younger than myself:)....all in all, not too bad:thumbup:

Tell me about it :grumpy: :p

A great line I once read from a very wise professor....

"I've known more people who have had their lives ruined by getting a PhD in physics than drugs"

I love physics, and am excited about the new direction I'm taking my career, but to see the misery some of my colleagues and friends have suffered trudging through the landscape of crappy pay, long hours, and no social life that makes up academia, I think that professor has a point.

Just graduated with a BSN. I'm a scientist! Haha! I am so glad to be out of nursing school it isn't even funny. Got my temporary license right before Christmas. Just need to get me a job now so I can start padding the Blade account.

Awesome! Nursing is a great career path, with a lot of opportunities for both monetary and personal fulfillment. Good on you for taking up that career!

I once heard another good line - "doctors diagnose patients... nurses heal them." Perhaps a gross oversimplification and only partially true, but there's a grain of truth in there. You've chosen to deal with some gross stuff and difficult work to make people healthy, and that's pretty dang cool. Good on you.

(I might be biased because I'm getting ready to marry a nurse :p )

I attended "What's A Matta U" also known as the Army school of hard knocks.
Trained in telecom and been working in the field ever since.
Microwave, Fiber Optics, & Satcom.

Bachelors in Fine arts with a concentration in sculpture and alot or art history classes. Been making a living in a maintenance dept at a University for tha last 10 years + part time teaching & a tiny custom jewelry business.

All of this would explain why my Busse collection takes so long to grow.

Patrick

I went to College with Patrick and got a degree in History and Anthropology. I am finishing my PhD in History and plan to enjoy the life of a professor. I love teaching and I also love researching in archives. 500 year old documents are awesome! 500 year old documents about alchemy are even MORE awesome.
