What'll be your first knife purchase of 2005?

Well, I traded into a Camillus CUDA EDC so I guess that will be my first knife of the year.

I just received my first knife of 2005, A Doug Noren Scagel Camp Knife, Cocobolo handle, 8 inch 5160 blade, it is really nice!

Hmmmm...I'm having trouble deciding...

Camillus Heat.
Benchmade 41, the one with Ti handles and pocket clip(I think 41MC?), this would look great next to my 42SSC.
Himalyan Imports Ang Khola.
Or splurge like I really don't need to splurge and contact our own Burchtree and see about having him make me a custom. Because I don't have a custom, or a good fixed blade, or something in a semi-traditional Japanese tanto style. <--Hint Hint, someone convince me. ;)

Or maybe this year will be a "gun" year and I won't buy a new blade and instead go for that Colt Commander I've been wanting and back it up with a new tactical flashlight.

Was dormant for a good part of 2004 (sort of), but have already ordered and received my Busse NARK. Here we go again.....

CRKT Companion; arrives monday. Then my first necker, A Ranger Little Bird. Can't wait for that little number!

Already made 2 purchases for the year:

1) Fisk/ovb 7" in curly maple

2) Randall 12-8" "Bear Bowie"

I love the Fisk/OVB. Does all the chores I ask it, and it's such a beauty. I'm aiming to get the entire Fisk/OVB line-up (yep, sounds crazy, but I have 3 more to go), so when this one came in today. I was happy. As always, shaving sharp and ready to work.

The Randall 12-8" is an AMAZING knife. Looks heavy, but handles really light! I got it on ebay with the black micarta handle with molded finger grooves (as opposed to the deep ones which I wasn't particular to). Very lively, definitely a very good fighter. The clip point (looks like it's 3.75") is sharpened, and back-cutting with it is very effective (tested on the cardboard package it came with). I can't wait to give it some hard use.

When I hit my in-laws farm in a few months or so, I'll test them both out hard and see how they perform.

Spyderco Kopa and maybe an Edgepro Apex (I'll have a year in Iraq to figure out how to use it ;) )

well, it turned out my first purchase was a Vic Hiker/Classic two-fer pack, followed by an 806d2. good times. :D

I didn't purchase these knives. They came as a surprise from my friend Tom Wilkinson, he thought I needed them in my collection. The middle knife I received from Tom a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure it's the first anodized handle that Ron Nott made. The top knife is scrimmed Mastodon Ivory, my first scrimmed and my first ivory. The bottom is Mother of Pearl inserts with engraved bolsters and beautiful rope filework on the spine set off by engraving on the liners.

Ron Nott, I believe is better known for his fine engraving than for his knife making.

Thank you Tom.

Although I have a few custom orders on the way, and I was saving for LVCKS at the end of this month, I stumbled on this beauty and couldn't pass it up. So this is my first knife purchase of the year...

i already made my first knife purchase for 2005;
an older (but new) BM mini AFCK, liner lock, black coat,
ATS34, combo edge, with the circle hole,
that i found at a booth at the swap meet in Hawaii.
it goes without saying that i was very excited.
i'd been wanting one ever since i got my BM 813 mini TSEK.
so it was perfect.
=D

next in line is an EKI mini commander sbt wave.
after carrying a mini CQC-7B wave
(my edc, my mini TSEK is going back for lifesharp,
and i'm carrying my mini AFCK now)
i sometimes find myself wishing
i had the security of a waved knife with me.
i find the chisel grind of the CQC's are not ideal imo for utility use.

it seems a lot of people here dig the spyderfly.
i own one, and i like it, but i don't love it.
i also own a BM 31 balisong, <3" blade, 440C, ti handles,
and it's the fastest, most balanced balisong i've handled.
the spyderfly is imo heavy and unwieldy,
but i've small hands, so that might play a factor.
in any case, i recommend BM balisongs to all interested in butterflies.

the szabofly looks pretty sweet though...
but it would be a toss up between that and a perrin butterfly, for sure.

happy 2005.

My first two knives of '05 are custom folders. The first is a Jeff Hall Phalanx and the 2nd one is a Rick Hinderer Firetac 165. Only other knives I really have my eyes open for are a good fixed blade, probably a Camillus CQB-1, and another Hinderer Firetac, but the Extreme version. :D :D :D

First purchase of the year for me was an Al Mar SERE 2000. I plan on a Spyderco Manix PE and BM 552 RSK Mk1 as my next additions.

My first purchase of the new year was a Bob Dozier folding hunter--three-and-one-half-inch blade--with desert ironwood scales. Beautiful knife. And, of course, now I am financially all tapped out for the rest of the year, but it was worth it. ;)

I already made my first purchase of the year too - a Strider GB - so much for self control. The further bad news is that I am going over to watch the Vikings game at the home of the dealer who sold it to me. This could be an expensive afternoon! :D

Well, waiting on the reply, but I am about to purchase a Simonich Bitterroot. Very excited about that.

I will let you know if it gos through.
