What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

Ian,
I am jammed up with holiday orders now too but we can't be that far apart both living in S. Cal? Pm me your address, contact info and maybe we can get together and have a few laughs after the smoke clears? Or maybe a local hammer/grind in?

That sounds good. I'm definitely gonna pencil in a few "screw around" days after xmas. Gonna need it.

Various stuff from the shop

Glueing a handle with colored epoxy, I use this method when using liners so there is no visible gap between the liner and the steel.

And a personal project of mine, providing industrialized paper micarta for the local Argentina market. It came out great and the knifemaker community overwhelmed me with requests/orders :) Its 7mm (0.28") thick sheet which is made of about 70 layers.

Like the cobbler whose family has no shoes; my family ask for a couple of knives for the kitchen. This pair of W2 slicers is the outcome. 62 HRC with plain curly koa handles. Very thin and ready for edges. I have the neighbor making a nice cutting board and now for a nice roast to cut up.

I owe a great deal to my good friends, pictured, as do we all. Two drove a hundred miles the other two live close. We had a great Saturday forging and welding and catching up.

Posting to gloat about my new camera :p

So freaking excited to not be trying to take quality photos with a cell phone. This is basically as low end as a new dslr gets, but it is truly impressive. Even in pitiful lighting it still is able to keep everything in range.

I'm still new to it but already getting better results.

Ian, That camera is sooo cool. I bought the Nikon D3200 last year. It has the same basic lens which is really useful. I just bought the 55 to 200 mm lens also so I could use it on a tripod next to my kitchen table and look down into a white box at about 70 mm to frame a 8 to 9 inch knife. There are more expensive Nikons to be sure but yours will do everything you need in my opinion. I bought my first Nikon in 1968 and I have 9 Nikon cameras now. ( I am still an amateur photographer) You will be able to get great photos with this camera with the current 18-55 lens though so congrats on your upgrade from a phone. I enjoyed your recent video and am sorry you had audio problems. I will look forward to your next video. You made a great choice of camera. Larry

Yeah I was actually going to get the d3200 for the same price with the extra 200mm lens, but I shoot on a table and rarely would need more than 3x zoom. I do plan to get the 200mm eventually. It was a close call between the two, but the d3300 had just enough extra features to sway me.

It's amazing that on auto, in the right conditions, it can get within 80% maybe of a pro photo, which is good enough for me. What I like is that even though this is a bit lower end, it has the hardware to take pro quality if you use it right.

It's a d3300. It's basically the cheapest good current model dslr w/lens that you can get.

I was going to post some pictures of my handle setup but I figured I would add shots of the knives as well. I took my panavise apart and just spin it around in my big vise.

My buddy came over last night and gave me a chunk of damascus that he's had for a few years sitting around. I decided to make a little conceal carry with it. Now I'm hooked on the stuff.
