There's a WIP up in Hammer & Tongs... but judging from the browsing numbers, I'm not sure most folks ever visit that corner of Shop Talk. :smiley_simmons:

Very nice! I've bought most of the electrical and hydraulic parts to build one. It looks like your dies are L shaped with areas for drawing and flattening. Could you post more pictures? Jess

Here's the third and last knife that I've finished in 2014. My knife making has slowed to a crawl due to the cold weather here in Chicago and the lack of insulation in my garage. Here's a camp knife that I made for a friend as a gift for our Christmas grab bag. Sheath was made by a gentleman named David Brown. Blade material is O1 heat treated to 59-60RC. I learned a lot during the process of making this knife. Handle did not end up where I wanted it, but learned what not to do when it comes to ergonomics. She's still 100% functional and will serve my friend well when he goes camping.

Just finished Knife #3 and #4. #3 was a birthday present for my mother and my first hidden tang and #4 is my first sale/commission. Just felt like contributing my first benchmark! Now I just gotta make the same exact folder for my father's 50th birthday next month ;)

It's pretty rudimentary but when I'm done with gifts for a while i'll have ideas and practice to make an awesome set for myself haha.

Cool things going on in everybody's shops. Even though people don't comment on every post I'm sure people are looking and thinking the projects are cool.

That block is sick! Do you mind if I use that idea?

I know what you mean. This thread has 5 or 6 guys that comment on each others work, but I also am guilty of not commenting on people's awesome work. Just too busy:)

Don, you are cruel ;_;

Showing to us such beautiful handle with C-tek ;_;

How you working with this material?

And here finishing 1 Gryphon from Bohler N690 4,5mm
Rest of knives need now drilling, tapping couple of holes for M5 screw, and sending for surface grind to 4,00mm and hardening.
For new knives I will work in hardened material.
Shaping -> Sending for Surface grind -> Hardening -> making bevels -> finishing :)

Sure go ahead. Glad to give back to this community.

It's just oak trim and 1/4 " aspen. I liked the contrast so I just polyed it. You could use any combination of woods you wanted. With mine I'm going to make top and bottom slots (chef and paring) and I'll just need a wider board with just another piece of trim between. The best part is since I don't have a table saw you can just slap it together, nip the ends and viola! I do have a cheap miter saw so I used a 15 degree angle for the bottom cut.

3 coats of poly then wet sanded 800 grit. One more coat and it's like glass. The cell phone pic doesn't show it but it looks much better in person.

Next time I'll add an oak trim piece on the top and cut a slot in it.

Don I have to agree with the others, that handle is sick!

Here's what I am currently working on. A small hidden tang. Heat treat is done, I had a peek at the hamon and it looks good! Now on to hand sanding.
