Anodized and carbidized... 72 RC Carbide Edge Friction Folder in the works!

Hey Dan your knives are great! I think they should be posted here just like any other. Especially when your anodizing them and putting carbide edges on them :D

On the carbide edge did you do that yourself or did someone do it for you? And because I'm curious, what is the intended purpose?

I have been trying a new way to grind my chef knives and I really like the results. I do a 3/4 flat grind then feather the grind going verical on the platen with a 1/4in felt backer using a fresh 60 grit. Really makes a nice clean transition and allows me to convex the flat grind just enough so food peels off.

They're pretty useless and or novelty in my opinion, but the seem to be very very popular and they are fun to make. Here's a mini cleaver I finished today.
My first official "freehand" ground knife.
1075 heat treated to 60rc, ironwood, black linen, and stainless corbys.

I'm applying the 72 RC Tungsten carbide to the Titanium blade for edge holding. The hard carbide does the cutting while the tough Ti backs it. This combo excels on cardboard and other abrasive materials, bone, meat, veggies, cloth, rope, rubber, canvas and more. The Ti is softer than the carbide so as the knife wears it will reveal more carbide in a self sharpening effect.

Why? Ultralight, no rust, easy to maintain, cuts aggressively...

These are easy to sharpen also, just work up a burr fro the opposite microbevel and strop off. The burr builds faster than one on steel and takes a little longer than normal to remove.

I make 'em but it is a goal that they do not look handcrafted... I want people to think robots from outer space made the knives. :D :D :D

Well Dan......................... I'm sitting here wide-eyed at how handsome that folder is. When I read about the carbidizing I wondered why bother and then, how does one go about sharpening it? I didn't realize that the carbidizing is only on one side.

Now I'm thinking it's a very high tech design and really useful (maybe because I find myself cutting a lot of cardboard boxes around here).

Dan that folder is amazing. If you want people to think its made on mars by robots you are well on your way my friend! Thanks for the response, one more thing to add to the list to research, I love all the crazy and unique stuff that people come up with on here!

Does the whole plunge have that curvature, or is it just the bottom corner that makes it look so?

Is there a good way to really blacken the the logo?
I've tried paints and such, always a worse mess than I started with.

I've thought about a low temp bake on enamel, but haven't tried yet.
