What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

Started on these this weekend. 2 Large Chef knives one is going with a set of 3 the other to a friend and the 4 smaller knives are for wedding gifts.

I finally added a dust collection system to my shop. I got a dust collector off of craigslist, and built the spark arrestor yesterday. It is working, but some water is getting sucked into the intake. I think I just need to add a blast gate to adjust the air flow.

Wouldn't the bucket and hoses make it hard to stand at the grinder?

I made my first leather sheath. It's a pouch style for a small EDC I made. First time I've ever sewn anything.

I got the Oregon Blade Maker grinder too about a month ago and I've been happy with it although I haven't had a chance to use it quite as much as I would have liked yet. I've never used another 2x72 so I don't have anything to compare it to but I think it's pretty well made and does exactly what I need. It's may not be as good as a KMG or some of the other higher end grinders but I wasn't expecting that at this price point. I just wanted a functional variable speed 2x72 since I'm not doing this full time. Grinder was under $500 with all wheels and flat platen attachment. I went with a 1 hp motor and a KBAC 24D VFD and had the whole thing up and running for under $730 which is cheeper than I probably could have done the GIB. I've replaced the top wheel on the flat platen attachment with a 2" contact wheel and also got one of the 8" contact wheels from USAKM and made another tooling arm for that. It's an incredible leap forward from using a Craftsman 2x42. I was a little worried about the 1 HP motor not being powerful enough but at this point I've had no problems at all with that.

Here's the review video I did right after I got mine all set up:

Btw, it looks like he is making a new adjustable tool rest so if anyone gets one I'd love to hear how it works.

Mine just came in Saturday, I'll let you know how I like it once I get my motor mounted. Still figuring out if I'm going to direct drive or use a belt, pillow blocks, and sheaves. The box where you wire up the electrical hits the back of the grinder. Down side of a big 143T format motor I guess. Busy with the kids and wife for spring break but hope to have it all running in the next day or so.

The tool rest is pretty unique and will allow for some compound angles....just not sure I'll like it for when I want the rest flat, so I May make another rest that's always flat. Using it should help give me more insight.

^^^ Nice work Rick!!! I like those draw knives...

EDIT: what brand of hammer is in the bottom photo?

What do you all think?

I found what looked like a murder weapon in a family members garage and thought it would make for a nice bit of steel stock to reshape.

And earlier today I chopped, ground and fiddled two blades from it. One a long handled general fixed blade and a little scrape necker.

First time I've dug the tools out for a play in a long time and it was so much fun. Much more medicinal than any crummy therapy!

Nice, Shane!

I just went and hauled home a 20" Powermatic vertical bandsaw for wood and metal... finished up my forging press finally this week, and squished some steel with it already. Just made a bigger (14") vertical welding forge to heat billets for it, too! Lots of tooling up happening around here.

Integral dagger from 16mm thick 440C with a ATS34 tang insert. Hollow grinds are on a 4" wheel. Rear bolsters are 416SS. Quillons are 303SS. Handle scales are stabilised Giraffe bone. Got a bit of clean up to do yet then it's of for engraving, heat treat, and final fitting of the scales.
