Nathan, unless you completely avoid me like usual... I would love to see that knife at Blade.

Have you cut through a cinder block with it yet? :D

Just finished this guy today, taking it to the Blade show:

sharpening stuff like this always puts me on edge

I'm just really glad this is done and turned out, I've lost sleep on this one...

No. I'm thinking about not doing that with this one. :D

Liar. I bet you were formulating TTT charts in your head, devising your next edge testing protocol, and deciphering Euclidean geometry. All while sharpening the knife in one hand, and reading Verhoeven's book in the other.

Naw man, it really did stress me out. I usually use a jig for sharpening (my hanging parallelogram) but that wouldn't work for this one so I did it free hand and was terrified the whole time.

Just finished up these two. Gyuto is 1095 and canvas micarta. The other is 440c with tigerwood scales and black G10 liners. Both have stainless corby bolts. I rounded the spine on the gyuto and man does it feel nice. I'm getting a good bit of knives set back and am looking to set up a table this fall at one of the local gun and knife shows and see if I can sell a few.

Finished up 3 of the round knives I've been working on.

Sword quenching and tempering, finally. A 30" jian blade heat treated, and another forged and ready to be ground. Also, modded a radial arm saw for metal cutting, to process sheets of 15n20 saw stock that I got for cheap.
I have to build a straightening clamp for sword length blades...
Also, I have a first try billet of "merovingian twist" damascus in the welding stages, hopefully to end up in a multibar blade for another forged-basket-twist-handled dagger.
A couple of opposed-tang hamon blades forged and ready to grind, in W1 and W2.
Two carbon paring knives returned with rusted blades and ruined handles. Dishwasher! Repeatedly! Arrgh, if it wasn't a friend's mom I'd tell her what for.
Pics sometime when I'm not too lazy.

Hi Everyone. Been out for two months with severe back trouble. Finished a single blade in April, none in may (I'm a full-timer and finish at least 15-20 a month). I'm back in the shop now and figured I was due to swing by. I went as many pages back as I could stand and checked out everyone's work, nice to see how everyone is doing. This is the last knife I finished:

That's a beauty Ian!

We're playing around with some tumbler stuff and working on some mirror finishes. Tomorrow we're going to see if we can achieve this in the tumbler.

I'm a big fan of pointy and stabby, that's lovely.

Even better with some nice wood like a stripey koa or maple.

Very cool round knives Chris. I'll bet they were a pain to grind! What are going to do with all of them?? :)

Thanks Shane. They provided some extra challenges to say the least. As for where they are headed, a friend is getting one, I'm keeping the bolsters/buffalo horn :D and I'm seriously considering doing a passaround over in the sheath makers area with the 3rd one. I want to get some input on how they perform from someone with a little more experience using them.

Ian,

Sorry to hear about your back trouble, I can relate. Two months is a long bout. Get to start the whole scaling back the meds and getting on a sleep schedule again. again. meh

^this knife is spectacular.

that's about the most crisp thing I've ever seen

The table is almost ready to pack up for the drive to Atlanta tomorrow. There are a few more to finish up and I'm calling it done.

I've been thinking about a leather knife like these. Yours look nice! You don't have a thread on these do you?
I'd be interested in reading about making them. :)
I'm starting to make sheaths for the knives I own so I can eventually make them for the blades I make.

Thank you Brock. Check out the "Sheaths and Such" subforum. There are several threads the last few months about round knife projects.
