Finished this one today, CPMS35VN and Olive Wood. I call it "The Thunderstorm" because the pattern in the wood reminds me of one.

I have been working a a 12in sushi knife out of xhp. I was getting bored with the handle so I made a stainless ferrule to go on the front.

Still alittle rough but I like the added weight.

Super noob here. I just did a video on my shop and some of my thoughts for friends who have asked me about how I go about doing things. I am just starting out, so get ready to laugh, cry, or stand in awe struck wonder.

Finally finished up a new model. I've lost alot of my muscle memory for grinding since I started law school and I had a hell of a time grinding this one. Ended up getting uneven bevels and had to take it too a full flat grind. I really need to build a jig.

if it's feasible time and effort wise, you got the skills man. I haven't seen one of your knives that wasn't a head turner

Ha thank you very much everyone!

Daniel,
I normally finish it the same way i do almost any other handle material. I bring it to 600grit and then hit it on the buffer. I actually only do this in my spare time but have been kicking the idea around about going full time. Thanks again for the kind words.

Blessings,
Joshua

These handles were brought straight off the grinder no hand sanding at all and a light buff.

Grind, regrind.....and finally it was mirror polished!

Guess it's about what you want, right? I have to admit, I tried using a jig, but it didn't feel like knifemaking, to me, if that makes sense. Everyone does stuff differently, for sure, and I don't begrudge anyone using tools at their disposal, but for myself, I guess I just need to have it in my hands for it to feel 'right'.

I'm with Matthew on that one. Just my preference. Looking at what you did there, you are doing a good job freehand. Even though the line is higher than you wanted, it appears flat and even.

I never really had a problem with bevels in the past when I was full time. Since I started school Ive lost so much muscle memory that its causing me problems. Oddly enough I only struggle with small knives. I can still grind a big chopper without issue.

I'm currently making a woodsmans tool roll kit with all the knives and bits. Most are cut out, and simply needing final touches and handles.

The fillet knife from an old Disston saw blade.

From the same saw and in need of an edge, handles etc. Game skinning knife.

A whittling knife from a file, some Holly scrap and a metal ring I found.

The belt knife to go with them, made from an old hss saw blade knife I found in a clearout of a garage. Also a mini knfie from scrap that looks a little different now as this image is old.

Got a load more bits to start and finish and the leather roll itself.

[edited] created a separate post.

Finished 5th Santoku style with yo handle.
Manzanita and AEB-L.
Messed up the pins in the front. Too close to the edge, but not terrible maybe.
Finally got a handle where I am real pleased with the shape. :)

OK, done with this one.

I call it "The Talon"

The finish is glass bead blasted and ceramic tumbled. The scales are removable

I like that. what is the steel? I have been thinking of that type of texture on micarta, but I think my "random" would be less than random and wouldn't look right. Any tips?
