My Wa Bocho is done. Just needs a makers mark, and to be sharpened. 15N20 steel, blue g10, curly koa, and Gabon ebony handle.

The cleaver, filet knife and paring knife are 440c. The other 3 are AEB-L. Here is the block I made for them today.

Ricky, Just a word of caution, I trust you put drainage holes in the bottom of that nice block you built? I'm sure your family is neat & tidy but I have people every once in a while bring me their knives to sharpen in the block and ask me if I can do something about the green fuzz growing on the wooden block. :barf:

These people just slide the knives back in the blocks wet from washing so often that the wood soaks up enough to start growing molds. :barf:..

I usually politely reply that they can just go plant the block in the garden cause the wood is filled with mold. So remind the troops to make sure the blades are dry and a few drain slots in the bottom will help it stay clean & dry just in case

Thats some of the best use of the burl is have seen! I'm actually bringing some more old lace burl down from near my college.

I'll be posting some photos here probably this weekens. I got 5A fiddleback maple, ironwood, redwood burl, and some african blackwood to saw up!

Those sure are beautiful knives! Not much going on in my shop, is much too cold without decent heat. One of my beginner students has a nice heated shop attatched to his house.

This is a maple handle I have been working with. I have used alot of maple throughout the years for different projects, but I absolutly love this piece. The curl just seems to dance when you move it around in the light. I stained it with a brown walnut stain and am currently applying tru oil.

Sometimes it is better to let everything be for a while and just do what makes you happy.
"Make a knife again"
..... and a second one and a third :)
These will be off for HT this week. It felt good woking on knives again

Thanks Brock and rcetroy. I really liked the buckeye burl. I just ordered 3 more blocks. Whenever they get here I'm sending them off to K&G for stabilizing. I am also looking for some koa if anyone has any leads?

Here is ashop tip for you guys that freeze, Put Anti Freeze in your dunk Bucket. It helps two ways! First the no freeze part and second, It helps with any staining funk on carbon and even stainless Steels. I watched a documentary on some Japanese sword makers and they were water quenching the carbon steel swords into these long Horse Troughs that were the color of anti-freeze.

I am not quenching, just ducking blades, But i like how it helps keep things clear. I use the Organic kinds since I'm playing with the dunk tank alot.

Back from the holidays, yep, its hot summer down here :D

I was invited to the Southeastern wildlife expo in Charleston SC this weekend by a custom knife dealer that I met at the first gun and knife show I went to. His name is Ron Stepp and is a great guy. I can't say enough about how grateful I am for all he has done for me. I met a lot of great folks and fellow makers. I only took 3 knives and was only there Saturday. I had a small corner of his booth and he also had Jason Knight sharing there. Jason was a very nice guy and offered plenty of advice to a new and aspiring maker like myself. Although I don't forge(yet)I am going to take him up on his offer to come to some of his schools. He offers everything from forging to grinding to design classes. I think I could use some help with all of those but definitely design. Anyway, thanks to those two guys and all the others I ran into there. If you are close y'all should make it out there next year.

My spark bucket freezes but a few min of exposer to the inferno off the belt grinder and it's good to go or melted enough to dump it out.
