Matt,

I am working on a number of pieces at the moment. I'm trying to finish something soon.

P.McKinley,

That Bowie came together very well. Good lookin' piece.

Had a little time to work on the next knife while the finish on the other cures. Down side of working with hand files, process takes forever. Upside is that I don't easily take off too much material.

Knife and spatula set for my brother's wedding.

Very cool Present for your bro. Kirinite handles?

Hahahaha I woke up this morning thinking maybe Scotch Brite is the perfect finish. Mirror polish is very impressive but so easy to mess up. I'm too much of a pragmatist.

I agree, Mirroe is great for a presentation/Desk piece. Anything that is going to work does/looks better with a brush satin and I find the courser finish helps keep food from sticking on my Culinary knives, Like a Peened finish on some of the Japanese designs.

I just finished up the larger piece of this matched pair.

All of the major components of this piece(leather excluded) come from a generation's old farm that climbs slopes of the Cape Breton Highlands in the town of Cheticamp. The blade was forged from a "100+ year old" farrier's rasp. The moose antler pieces all come from a nearly intact skull that had been left atop an old shed to weather for several decades before I got a hold of it. The Ambrosia Maple is also from the same property.

Cheticamp Bowie

Blade: 11 3/4" x approx 1/4" of forge finish farrier's rasp, flat ground bevels with a 600 grit hand sanded finish.

Handle: Wrought iron S-guard and spacer forged from an anchor chain link, etched and lightly polished. Moose antler spacer with birch bark, birch, and bloodwood accents. Natural Ambrosia Maple with buffed tung oil and paste wax finish, and a peened, domed, and polished stainless steel pin.

Sheath: 6/7 oz veg tanned leather with natural polished edges, leather lanyard, moose antler conch, and a maple bead. The leather has a buffed mink oil finish

Please let me know your thoughts,

Thanks,
Peter

Thoughts?

Awesome choice of materials and a look of a USA Southern Toothpick Bowie blade is what comes to my mind.

Don's cool design was influenced by the Porsche culinary cutlery line.

It's all good, we are all influenced from everything around us. :)

Finally got our new "Lynx" model completed. :) Feedback on this knife from the recent show we did has been amazing!

Thanks Daniel! I'm not sure on the leather as I have a fella make them for me. I have made a few but at $12 a piece I just can't talk myself into making sheaths!
Wow! I don't think I can scrounge up enough leather for $12 a sheath, let alone about two+ hours of work! That's a great deal. They look pretty nice too.

They are nice. So far I've only had him make simple ones but he has a Bowie I did and has free rein to do as he pleases. He mentioned something about chicken skin inlay so we will see what he comes up with!

Of all the knives I've made I haven't kept any for myself other than kitchen knives. This one is for me! 6" camp knife, bead blasted and tumbled with g10 scales. I really like how it feels! It's a little dirty because I've already put it to work!

I spent a lot of time of time on the fittings for this knife. Nickel silver guard, and blue G10 coined spacer. I think I'll use the piece of koa that's under the knife for the handle.

Yanagiba, small Usuba and a Chinese Cleaver (Cai Dao) in the works, all of them 2mm (0.078") thick
