Going to try making a lock back out of a slip joint I messed up.

I think your lock notch is too far forward.

Thanks. Going by a book I read It said to have it as far forward as possibly to increase the lock strength. I also need room to clear the washers. I agree that it looks goofy and will learn something from this build. I've only been making knives for 15 months, done two friction folders and this is my first real folding knife. I expect to screw up.

I just sent off 8 blocks of curly maple and 3 blocks of California buckeye burl to k&g. Does anyone know what kinda turnaround time I should expect?

In the last few months I've done 2 orders with K&G and both times they were back to my house within 2 weeks.

Getting some projects done after a week of flu and work catch up
Finishing up this hunter with my second hidden tang to date. still needs some work, shoulder isn't flush with the guard yet, it's hard to make them level and even! I've been told as well to put a curve to where the tang meets the shoulder too, although i think at this point with this one it's about that 1/2 millimeter more to push the guard into place and level out the shoulders
the hanldecomponents are deer antler , african blackwood, thuya burl, and mahogany. i'm wondering the best way to go about shaping the handle, either before i glue/pin it or after. Anyone out there have a sugestion on which is the better course?

This one's gonna look sweet!

I'm working on a framelock with a .321" blade!

Heating a Zirconium clip! This was my first time working with Zirc and I really like the material. The blackened finish is extremely durable... I was experimenting with my finish and had to use a ceramic belt to grind the black off.

Make sure your finish is absolutely perfect if you are going for a shiny all black look, literally check it over with a loupe. Any scratches show up like crazy and like I said the finish is extremely wear resistant.

Blackwood Carbon Fiber extended backspacer ground flush. This CF is cut on the opposite bias and I think it looks great! Milling and more sanding is next.

Im home for the week and I also had a package back from K&G! Just surfaced more old growth redwood burl, Hard maple, crotch walnut and my old growth Cocobolo! Next up, cut up that ironwood!

My buddy wanted all black everything.

My second try at a kitchen knife for me.
W2 and koa from burl source

Thanks Matt!
It was fun. I'm going to try some more using some tips you posted on another thread.

I had Brock and HSC over in my shop today. I sent them both home with a nice mix of redwood burl, curly maple, kingwood and walnut!

I shot a video of how I do plungless grinds but it's too long for photobucket. I'm trying to figure out how I can post it but not having much luck yet.

Long time lurker, first time poster:

You could always use Dropbox and share the link here if you want to keep it semi private. Vimeo is also an option that will allow you to pw protect. I'd love to see plungeless grinds demo'ed well.
