Making great use of that cocobolo! Shoot me a pm, I might have something you will like.

FINALLY got my shop cleared out of my in laws tools, and my kids toys. I just wonder how long I can keep it this clean. I am also running for the title of oldest/ most rustic shop. This building was the original well house for my 1905 Victorian.

That's a very charming shop building in deed!

Doing a mix of grinds and new designs this week. Left kwaiken is hollow ground with flat tip, all the rest are flat. Far right kwaiken is going to be scrapped and likely used for edge retention tests. I've only done a handful of hollow grinds but I absolutely love the look of them. I think i will be doing quite a bit more in the future. :D

Awesome looking set of blades there bro! BTW they look like they're prepped and draped for surgery:D

Thanks Larry! Yeah, i feel like most smaller knives are really complimented by hollow grinds as well. Wish I was better at them but one step at a time. Knocked these out today. For some reason the handle shaping juices weren't flowing today. The smaller blades gave me a rough time during the final stages of completion. Glad they are almost finished! lol.

well, if you wish you were better at them, the rest of us are in trouble. you have some of the most crisp grind lines of anyone i see regularly on here. wish i was half that accurate grinding... would save me weeks a year on sanding.

Sweet looking shop & home.

Can you tell me a little about your 2 x 72" belt grinder? I don't think I've ever seen that brand or kind? Made there in Europe I suppose?

I built it from a parts kit from polar bear forge. It is a Flat SlInG grinder http://polarbearforge.com/sling_order.html. they have parts kits for flat platen, wheel and combo setups. it is a no frills (no work rest, no platen tilt) machine. The price is right and you have to provide wheels http://r.ebay.com/gbUpkw, motor (2 hp from automationdirect.com), and all the nuts and bolts (mostly 1/4"). It is not a difficult build. I have been very happy with it. Granted it's the only 2x72 I have used. I had to tweak the wheel alignment a bit (nothing crazy, just had to get the drive wheel on the right plane). It runs true and with a 2 hp motor, it does what I need. I did not do a VFD, as i don't have 220v in the shop. I am building a variable speed disk grinder however, as i can run a 1hp VFD on 110v. here is the original BF post I did http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1363469-Sling-grinder-complete I also got some questions from my youtube video, so if you view the video in the link i just posted in youtube, and check the comments. I put a parts list there. Just out of curiosity, why did you assume it was from Europe? I'm thinking the grape vine on my "old world" well house may have led you to believe I was a cultured European, instead of a good old boy from Maryland. :)

I built the whole thing for a little over $400.

Oh. latest addition was a new shop light. I had a single incandescent bulb as the main light, with a variety of task lights. After i fixed the wiring to the single bulb socket (my father in law wired it off the switch with heavy gauge stranded direct burial cable ) I replaced the socket with an outlet and installed this: http://www.lowes.com/pd_420866-4392...ductId=4013483&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1#noop with two of these LED bulbs http://www.lowes.com/pd_760419-43921-YGA05A04-T8-18W-840-_1z10ht5Z1z11k3p__?productId=999981620&pl=1 (I highly recommenced these, they are damp area safe, tough, long lasting, throw a great white light, and can be used to as direct replacement for existing 4' T8 fluorescent). Fixture was $13 and the bulbs where $10/ per. So this was cheaper by $15 then buying a 4' LED shop light. The difference in the shop is.... wait for it....night and day. badump crash.

Haha they do! Thanks Robert! I normally just keep my blades under clean shop towels to prevent grit from falling on them but never thought to take a photo like this until now.

Thanks brotha! I know a lot of makers enjoy the hand sanding process but I hate it. I'll normally just scrap a blade with a slightly uneven belt finish rather than try and save it by hand sanding. Needless to say...I've got quite a few scrapped blades. lol.

Getting ma grind on ;)
