What grit belt do you stop at on thoes josh. I find that as I go through the belt progression I hit a point where belt finish does not look good anymore. I use the gator belts and really like the finish that the A100 and A65 leave but once I hit the A45 and A30 the grind pattern is not as nice and looks off. But usually I don't mind because if I'm going that fine I'm going to hand sand it.

220 flats, 400 bevels.
Yeah, most of the time 220 looks good enough to stop but i take it just a bit more. I have a hard time seeing much of a difference between 400 and 600 grit.

Thanks guys! Appreciate it. These are ridiculously time consuming/nerve racking but when i don't mess them up they look pretty cool. :)

Yes, the upper swedge was ground with a small wheel and the tips flat ground to join the hollow ground bottom bevel. Three grinds, three tooling arms, all flowing symmetrically. My least favorite grinds to do lol. These have not yet been sharpened hence the lack of a secondary bevel. :)

Here is a more close up shot to show the different grinds a little better. Blessings,
Joshua

When you say "small wheel" what is the size? I have never tried something like that, but I want to. Looks great. And what size wheel is the primary hollow grind?

@JT It's made fore one specific task wood carving. A scooping cut like an ice cream spoon. The artist i made them fore helped out forging and testing the ergonomic's and angels. A tedious but fun process.

Here's a new RF3 in the works, this one has 2 full days into it so far not including heat treat day.

Zirconium clip! It's just roughed out here...

Frame flats are at 600 grit back down from 800 and frame bevels are eggshell orange peel textured. It was tough getting the lines crisp but well worth the time. I'm still going to go over the flats some more once this one is ready for final finish.

Looks awesome Daniel!

Trying out a new knife design and decided to try S35VN at the same time. As it's a prototype I didn't both finishing the flats. As per Crucuble's heat treat info, the knife should be at 61Rc and it actually wasn't as bad to grind as I thought it would be. 750 grit belt finish.

Very nice, what thickness blade is that? And how did you do the work on the spine of the blade?

Thanks. It was .150" (or there about if I remember right). For the gimping on the spine I bought a checkering file, 20 lines per inch.

We purchased a leather sewing machine this year. My hands are getting stiff and the new machine makes the process much easier. We bought one of the Cowboy 4500 leather sewing machines. It is driven by a servo VS motor and will sew 1 inch leather. We put it in the house and not the shop so we can keep the works clean.
