This is the second design profile, based on my first knife which was patterned after a stretched out mule team, sort of. I didn't like the hump, blade shape & a "few" other things on the first profile, so I've changed it a bit to reflect a different design. This one is still D2 but at HRC 61 from the heat treat, with black canvas micarta scales & red .032" micarta liners. The blade is about 4 3/4" at the edge, with a LOA of 9" & made with 1/8" thick D2 again. I'm doing 2 of this one in D2 & 2 of this same pattern in O1, ground finer at the edge.

Taking my lumps as I go, slow & painful progress & learning, but this one is turning out fairly well. It's .035" behind the edge, so it's fairly beefy but I've been concerned with toughness, so it's a bit thick. I still enjoy the D2 steel, but it's a booger to finish & work on in general, especially at this hardness for finishing & sanding. Here's a progress shot, still need to finish the blade & sharpen it but making some headway.....

Here was the first, just to compare the design & changes. It's shorter overall, not as well finished when it was done & not as clean in general. Practice is supposed to make it better, not worse, right?

Well after 4 days of reading I have officially read this ENTIRE thread. All 260 pages. Since I don't have the cash for steel knowledge is always free. Learned alot thanks to everyone who posted in here.

I've been experimenting with blade finishes and I'm pretty happy with how this one ended up. Not quite done yet but is getting close.

I like the shape, too. It is one of the few cases where the thumb ramp actually has a purpose. I also like that the choil is properly placed. I think there is such a thing as doing too much on a handle. Not that it looks bad, but it may have looked "cleaner" with the acrylic only in the front.

Thanks Stacy I really appreciate the feedback. As a new guy I really try to soak up any advice you guys offer. To be honest the handle was a compromise between them wanting all resin and me wanting to use wood. I agree though, it may have flowed a little better not being split into thirds.

We purchased a leather sewing machine this year. My hands are getting stiff and the new machine makes the process much easier. We bought one of the Cowboy 4500 leather sewing machines. It is driven by a servo VS motor and will sew 1 inch leather. We put it in the house and not the shop so we can keep the works clean.

Ooooh I'm jealous!

Karambits and FMA tac hawks. I have beautiful wood waiting to be used but I have a bunch of tac blades to finish first.

Finally got the time to build a new, improved, heavier grinder. Then I thought, well, 2 is 1 and one is none right? Everything in these is 3/8" grade 50 plate. They're welded up now using 1.5" tube as tool arms but I may go to 1.5" barstock. I'll post more I get them set up. And after some tweaks to the dimensioning I'll make prints and dxf files available for anyone who wants to build their own.

Just finished these five. I've officially sold six knives previously, I just didn't talk about it due to forum rules. But now that I have a knifemaker membership, I can come out of the closet. I've got orders for eight more of the drop point hunters. I can't seem to make them fast enough to get a stock. I'm happy as a hobbiest though. Hope they pass muster with you all as I respect all the opinions on here. Thanks for all the help ( and help you will undoubtedly render in the future).

Got my makers mark stamp. This is the first knife to get stamped.
1084 from Aldo and stabilized walnut from Greenberg.
