What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

That's really cool Daniel! Did you do the carbide yourself? I tried that with my power supply and dremel electro pencil and couldn't ever get it sharp, but now looking at your blade I don't think I got nearly enough coverage for a fair shot.

It's nothing special, I put two ash vacuums below my grinder. One for wood/micarta and one for metal. I operate them manually with two switches. The metal vacuum has some water in the bottom to put out really hot metal, for example when hogging out profiles.

There are probably more efficient solutions, but I think it's working okay. It's for catching the dust closest to the grinder. I also have a ceiling mounted dust filter.

A suggestion to anyone setting up their shop Vacuum for the first time! See how Currenthill uses one for metal and one for wood! Or at least empty it when changing from on material to the other. I started a fire in my dust collector!

Makes for a few intense moments while running for the Fire Extinguisher! LOL Also if you grind Aluminum & then steel you could possibly make Thermite!

Big Boom ! So always keep the Vac clean and have a Fire Extinguisher in the shop!

Have fun and stay safe!

Much appreciated!

Thanks! Yes everything in house besides initial waterjet.

I'm using this unit ---> http://usaknifemaker.com/tung-carb-by-bebe-carbidizer.html I have seen some very nice carbide work done with power supplies though.

Prep and finish is key with carbide application Everything needs to be extremely clean and make sure you have a good ground. If your ground is sparking a lot try to reduce that by grounding more solidly. Carbide really works well with a blasted finish and even better with a blasted anodized finish.

I apply carbide first then sharpen. I like to build up a burr with 120 grit then skip right to 1200 to lightly refine the edge... after that I hone the reverse burr with one light honing pass then a couple passes on the bevel. After that I like to strop with a leather belt, sometimes a scotchbrite belt or even better push through the edge of a phonebook/cardboard to just remove the burr. The knife will be extremely sharp and cut very aggressively with this edge.

You don't say no to a good customer unusual request... a monster knife... :D

Thanks for the tips! I'll give it another go.

Yesterday here in Argentina was the "Dia de los Inocentes" same concept as April's Fool day there in the USA, so I presented this contraption to my social networks followers :D

The flashlight is an actual product I made about 10 years ago for flashlight collectors (@ candlepowerforums) and the dagger was made out of a file and its currently sitting unfinished at my bench, a little photoshopping and sillyputy to keep everything in place for the photos and Voila! :D

Been a long time since I've posted and this little chefs knife is testament to how far I've come doing this. Very happy customer who was intending this to be a gift but admitted he very well may keep it.

Finished those six paring knives I was working on before Christmas. I kept this one for myself since the maple scale had a small crack in it. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure this one out. I will be doing more kitchen knives in the future.
