Beautiful again Malanika!

How do you make that oval hole in the butt plate? Drill a hole and file to shape?

Tang is oval. I make small hole in pommel, smaller than tang and when I mount pommel with hammer, hole takes shape of tang. I hope you understand...:)

Great work where do you get the birch bark from?

From Russia.

After looking at the tang sticking out of the butt plate I think I do.
I'd love to see a pic of the set up you have how you hammer the butt plate in place

HI,
I’ve some how never got around to reading this thread. It seems to get buried for a while and I forget that it is here. I book marked it so now I can just get back and enjoy it when I like.
What prompted me to post right off was your bench top drill press in the first post.

Last night I went to do a little edge sanding of some home modified knife scales. I set up my big floor drill press with a drum sander, not because I needed all that power and rigidity for a little knife scale sanding but because I like the “big fancy” machine and wanted to enjoy using it.

The Chef (my partner) was asleep upstairs and if I woke her up there was a very good chance I would be put out on the deck to sleep for the night so I was hoping for no more sound than a decent hummmmm and whissssssck . What I got was a pretty good intermittent squeeeeelllll. Dang ! This is a pampered drill press; fairly new; bought brand new; I even loosen the belt tension when I am not using it. Tried a few things and . . . . squeeeeelllll.

OK that’s enough. I chucked the drum sander into the little bench top shown. The little bench top I bought thirty years ago or more, used, from some shmuck for $75. I didn’t expect it to last a year but I wanted to get going with some sort of fairly accurate drilling thing. It has got a little attention but I don’t loosen the belt and don’t really pamper it. I set the speed to the highest setting (higher than the floor model has so even better; I knew that) . . . turned it on . . . what did I get ? ? ? ?
Hummmmmmmm . . . . whisssssssssck.

Now I got to trace the squeal on the big guy. I’m about to go do that now.

So any way. What you see bellow is an Urban Trapper knife that I put KrayEx scales on. When I have a few minutes I pull them off and improve them cosmetically. User wise I been using them for weeks now and I am so pleased. I carry the knife loose in my pocket (pretty darned light still) or in a belt pouch. The handle is too thick for pocket clip carry. I am perfectly OK with that. I wanted a robust grip.

Basically in this operation I scribed along the titanium liners / frame, pulled the scales off, corrected / improved the scribed line and sanded to the line on both scales. Picked off some of the strings along the edges and screwed the scales back on for another day of EDC.

I may be done or I may decide to go a bit finer grit, on the surfaces just sanded and maybe chamfer the edges a tweak.

As far as drill presses they don’t build them like they used to . . . and this little bench drill press is a cheepy Chinese model, probably a Buffalo brand, from the early days of that ilk.

PS: I am probably just getting some seal squeal on the floor model. Any one have this Delta drill press (third photo) and have the same noise ? Solution ?

Here’s an old photo of the big drill press. Yah I’m lucky to have it. I put the big knobs on the handle so yours may not look like this.

Busy week for me. Finally bought a small wheel holder. Man I can't believe I dealt with those stupid drums for so long!
