I do the plunge to the bolster on a small wheel and let that flow into the flats. Finish the flats on the disc.
I wish I could figure out how to do that. Flattening bevels on the disc could be titled "how kuraki dicks up his plunges in one simple step. "

u can do totally do this, I'll make you a video of how if you like?

take a look MS knives from Tim Hancock, the plunge is perpendicular to the spine, with a file guide on the blade, the 9" disc works great
If you have a radius plunge ,then just stay away from the plunge

Do it!!!!!!

Got a picture of the deer the antler came from, which my buddy harvested about 25 years ago. Came off the base of the deer's left antler (on right in picture). If this is not allowed here, someone just let me know, don't want to offend anyone or go against any rule I didn't realize.

Just finished a Randall Alaskan inspired skinner. This is my first hidden tang, first antler, first bolster knife, and second one I’ve forged. It is 1084 forged from 1.25x.25” stock, left some forging marks on there too. Antler donated from buddy of mine. This is my 15th knife so far, all rest have been full tang. Learning every time

This would be greatly appreciated.

The sister of one of the sailors killed on the USS Stark, in a missile attack in the Persian Gulf back in 1987, came to me almost a year ago, asking if I would be interested in making a knife to commemorate this event. Being a man who served in the Navy, aboard ship, I told her I would be happy to do my bit.

I was given a section of the fantail from the Stark to work with. I spark tested the steel and found it to be mild steel. I figured the only way to make a knife, that worked, was to combine the mild steel with a steel of higher carbon, forge welding the two steels in the San Mai process. I choose 15n20 as the core steel, knowing it's welding qualities.
The butt cap and ferrel are made of a forged blend of the ship's steel and wrought iron.
I used copper and G-10 for the accents.
My son, Kevin, used our Bridgeport mill to produce the Stark patch, on the butt cap. The knife will be up for auction at the yearly get together that takes place in Florida at the home port of the USS Stark.

To all those who have served, my regards, Fred

Haven’t posted here in awhile so here it goes.

Working on a keyhole bowie for a customer. The guard is multi bar twist with a wrought iron waste. So far so good, you can see the pattern peaking through. It had straight layers welded to the edge but I think most of that will be removed when I finish shaping it.

I finished my third knife last weekend. I know there's a lot of guys that aren't fans of the "mother of toilet seat" acrylic swirls but when I saw this color I knew it would be perfect for my son.

1080 steel and toxic green kirinite with mild steel pins. It's amazing what a guy can do with a 1x30 Hazard Fraught belt grinder, hand tools, and sandpaper.

This image is a bit more "honest" about my skills. I dinged the ricasso and slid off the whetstone a half dozen times. Patience, patience, patience....
