Been a while since I've seen Stellute veen used.
How do you like it?

Not sure just yet - I haven't had a chance to do any food prep. It was easy enough to grind, but nearly impossible to drill. I'm lucky enough to have access to a wire EDM, so I used that to cut the profile out.

It definitely feels different than steel - much more slick and liquid just beads up & rolls off. Strange stuff for sure.

nice one, I like 210mm petty size.
how did you keep it straight out of the quench? or how did you straighten afterwards?
Sorry for the delay...been offline for a few days. I don't remember this one warping. Sometimes I will straighten right after temper, or with some of the differentially hardened blades, I will torch the spine post temper.

Freshly ground redwood burl. Still warm

We go from 180 to 220 to 400 in a couple minutes then slosh as much TruOil as possible as quickly as possible. Stabilized wood is worth the price but this find was a gem
Stabilizing with 50/50 TruOil Spirits baths

3 coats and its asking for more

Thos are awesome. I just checked out the website and it looks great but there are only a couple of pieces. Do you need to special order or does he bring in new batches?

I'd just shoot him an email, or give him a call, and see what he has. He's made a bunch of stuff that isn't on his website, so may have some laying around. Or might make some more for you.

I decide to use 4mm pins on handle .....M4 thread is on frame ,pins with M4 thread on one side and everything glued .I see no need for disassembly handles/frame . Only blade would have that option. What do you think about that ?

Not directly related to knife making, but I got a Lincoln Electric stick welder for 50 bucks today off a co-worker! Works fine, he's upgrading to a high end multi-process welder and didn't need this anymore. I have a few knife making tool projects in mind with this once I get the shop rewired, contacted the electric company about setting up a new panel in the garage, hopefully it all goes smooth.

Now that's a deal!

Working on a 40th birthday gift for my hunting buddy. A skinner in .14" RWL-34. Blade is a around 5 1/4". Brass guard and redwood burl scales to be fitted later on..Sanded to 400 grit so far, and I might just stop there. The blade is actually the first one I ever ground, so kind of fun to give.

New grinder is finally here and set up. The frame had a little bit if an excursion within the FedEx system - but they eventually found it. Dedicated 2'x2' bench. seems stable enough, with a little bit of room on the side to place stuff. Need to extend my electric so I have a closer plug though (and get better light directly above it!). Also need to get a dust collection system in place.

Grinding bevels is indeed easier with the stability and slower speed of the variable speed grinder. Had to try the grinder out :) - below are the four blades I received from JT's first plasma cutter run: my wife has really small hands, and has discovered she likes using our rather cheap/flimsy butter knives as dinner knives. I thought I would make her something better! These have 15 degree bevels - not perfect, but things went easier/cleaner/faster as I went through this set of 4. Plunge lines are NOT easy to get straight - and harder on the left side than the right.... Will handle these with Walnut. Mostly these are a learning effort for me: ultimately I plan to make a set out of stainless damascus, with bolsters (she wants bolsters for some reason :) ) , and maybe that stabilized spalted maple I got from WEO (she likes that spalted maple!)

Last of 6 to be roughed out, felt this one needed some attitude. The false edge at the top has around .03 of a flat so if your thumb goes to far forward you don't cut it. The back edge once it transfers to the clip is a 60 degree inclusive edge. Going to try to clean this one up tomorrow and get things ready to ship to heat treat within the next week or so.
