12th sharp object I’ve forged so far since I started a few years back. Walnut/file, bird/trout knife. Worked pretty well skinning and caping a big 11 pt white tail last winter too. Picture is a little deceiving but the blade is about 4 inches.

Visiting France for 5 weeks, a chef had purchased a knife from me earlier this year and then ordered another.
Yesterday I met him and personally delivered the 2nd knife to him and enjoyed a nice dinner, Brazilian Japanese fusion.

The wife and I and our retired cowdog Canela took a little road trip. She said she was MAKING me take a day off.

I haven't counted how many yet. Drilling tang holes today.

Last couple of custom jobbers I did recently. And one I was able to squeeze in during heat treats and long annealing sessions. Blades include D2 core, CTS-204P core, and 1095 core. All Suminagashi San-Mai from Dion Damascus. Have yet to work with his M4. Lovin the results.

I really like the look of your omote-suki (hollow grind on the bevel side). I have been tempted to do it but feared that I would grind too much through the suminagashi. Yours shows that a small amount of exposed core in some spots isn't at all a detraction.

Did you pre-forge the hollow, or only grind it in?

Thanks! Yeah, I was a bit nervous doing the hollow grind, haha. Mostly because it was my third time doing it. Not much you can do about how much of the core gets exposed I guess. Especially if it was hammered to thickness by hand, and my hammering skills can use some improvement.

Nope, just hammered it as flat as I could. I did think about doing that though. Probably would have kept more of the suminagashi doing so. Been thinking about making a set of sens for doing hollows. Would help a lot on single bevel hollow grinds as well. I get a bit of warping even when grinding slow and wet. I imagine you'd have more control with a sen as well. I'm always afraid I'm going to mess up the flats when grinding hollows.

Just discovered Pyinma Burl.

Nice stuff but very soft. This is after 10 coats of TruOil and its still sucking it up

That is beautiful work. I checked out the website For the damascus and ordered a few pieces. How did you heat treat your blades? Thanks
