Finished this one up yesterday and I'm very happy with the way it came out. Typically, I like to make more "user" knives but a departure was fun and it stretched what I thought I could do. Maybe now every-other knife I will try something new or at least with the collector in mind. image001.jpg image002.jpg image003.jpg image004.jpg image9.jpg

This is another from the left-over move stuff from Tucson to New Mexico. 1084, Bocote with black G10 liners for an accent, 7 3/8" LOA & not quite done yet. It needs to have a bit more oil & then the blade needs to be finished & sharpened (just at 220 for now, a bit coarse). Will post another picture once it's actually complete, but I really like this wood for the blade (warmer feel, was a cabinet maker for too long I guess). Right now it's at 800 & I've been wet-sanding with Danish oil, but I still need to run it up another few coats to seal the wood better. I'm still learning & doing simple blades, but it's a lot of fun figuring it out as I go...

WowWow. That is gorgeous. Wow. Yes I think you need to do that more often.

Well, I'm still a complete noob. But, I think I've got everything to complete my forge tomorrow. Then, I need to finish working on my first profile. Maybe I can complete my first knife by this weekend.

Some nice looking blades guys and gals.

Here's what we did yesterday. Prepped and welded up 4 1080/15N20 billets. All of them are 15 alternating layers of 0.125" 1080/0.070" 15N20. The largest billet has 2 pieces of 15N20 between each 1080 layers.

I think having access to the press is worth a lot of hassles of having roommates:(.

Warren, I am so disappointed that you didn’t mirror polish that blade.

Hoss

I thought about it.... Not! The 120 grit blaze barely touched it. I got to x100, tried an x65, but that didn’t do anything. So, x100, then scotchbrite it was. You can see I rounded the corner of the plunge with the scotchbrite. Crap!
