I’m in high school and like making knives I’m using hand files and I have a 1x30 sander I’ve saved about 500$ what would y’all recommend to invest in that will making knives way easier then filing out the bevels. People say the 4x36 sanders are not meant for knife maker is that so?
I have a 4 x 36, a Kalamazoo. I was able to swap out the motor for something half speed. I also set it up so the platen is horizontal and the belt runs away from me
I can use it for refining the scratches on bevels but mostly I use it with a fine Scotch-Brite belt for Finishing.
This Grinder is also useful for flattening handle material

I have four other Grinders as well.

you have $500 ... keep saving and get the 2 x 72 Grinder

Just recently I finished my best knife yet - a custom lobster knife in AEB-L and birch bark, with G10 bolsters and a beech wood saya. The saya pin is brass, matching an inlay in the pommel, which the tang is peened over. The blade has a plungeless flat grind, and the bottom quarter or so becomes a convex bevel.

What does it mean lobster knife? Split the lobster in half?

Got busy with the new job/old job, school, life and haven't been able to check in in a while. This is a Japanese inspired chef blade and the largest I've ever attempted. Went with some tips given in another thread. Hoping to have done by today next week. I'm happy with the pre ht grind aside from a few hiccups. Hope you are all doing well.

I’ve been working on a mini tanto, in z-wear Rc63/64. Black g-10 mini guard, and ringed gidgee scales.

This knife is for an arborist, for daily carry. He’s picking it up on Saturday. If he prefers, I have another edc in k-390 at Rc67/68 almost finished. His choice of either.

Not a knife, but it is going on in the shop..
Finally took delivery of my second, and most definetly last, drill press.
Gear head on a 4" column, 105-2900 rpm, 1" capacity in steel. 3-phase motor. Spindle stroke 130 mm. Chuck is a keyless Albrecht 1-13 mm with integral MT3 shank.
Good bye to flex, wobble and runout!
Now to get some wiring done, and sort out a small concrete base for it.
