Cool machine!
Isn't the sandpaper very expensive it that size?...but can't find any disks(9") in Europe that normal normal sheaths of sandpaper can be used on. I find the standard purpose made sandpaper for the disks I can find very expensive.
I just buy standard 9x11 sheets, cut off 2" for hand sanding, then I have a 9" square that I put on the disc, then trim the perimeter.

Do you put it on with glue or velcro?

I use 3M Feathering Adhesive. basically a contact cement and all you do is peel off the old paper and press on the new paper.

I've been looking in to a disksander in stead of a "real" belt grinder, but can't find any disks(9") in Europe that normal normal sheaths of sandpaper can be used on.

I use velcro to attach the sandpaper. They are not expensive, in 10-oacks you pay appr 1.5 euro per piece. In 5-packs still less than 2 euro. Klingspor:

If you want a 9"/225 mm disc grinder and are fine without proper dust collection, check out Volf48. Looks like a steal at 250 euros. 3-phase so you can use a vfd too:

I only intend to use my grinder for handle work. For blade grinding I think velcro backing is too soft.

Thing is what I can find in Europe is mostly with a 10" or 12" disk.

That French machine looks interesting but I don't have 380V.

You mean the Volf48? He's in Bulgaria.
You don't need 380 volt. You use a single phase 230 volt VFD with it, it converts to three phases. It is what I am using with mine. You only need 380 volt if you are gonna run straight from an outlet. But you don't want to do that since you want variable speed, from the VFD.

Thnx, I'll look in to that!

Thnx I've send them a mail to ask if they'll sell it as a package.
That variable speed is an expensive piece of kitt

#upgrades:

Old setup: 2.33-speed 1.5HP 3450rpm @115V. Only worked on the fast belt setup with the 5" wheel. Anything else on high would trip the 20A strip or breaker during wind-up.

New setup: VFD, Leeson 2HP @220V, 5:3 ratio, freq doubled

That's a KBAC-27D for those thinking about this. It's an incredible piece of kit. Full NEMA-4 washdown-rated, 115V (up to 1.5Hp) or 220V to 2Hp, trim pots, freq doubling option, 50/60Hz, etc. and well documented.

Courier Day! Fresh belts and a 9 inch disc, Having a play and it definitely will be a game changer in getting things flat.

Also had my first go at grinding a clip/false edge, not to bad with the angled platen. Great thing about being a terrible new maker is everything knife is a learning process. Love it. Will be a heap of firsts on this blade.

Are those some scallop Klingspor LS312JF I see in there? You'll love them. I use 80-->180-->400 on the slack platen to shape and finish my handles.
