What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

My shipping department received a big box of belts from the Czech Republic
Waiting on the grinder from Bulgaria which should come Monday.

in the meantime I put a handle on and sanded the first Magnacut Gyuto

and as the outdoor café’s opened in Paris I went and had a beer

You and I have eyebrows in common!!

Yep thought about that after profiling a blade last night and looking at the mess, maybe something like laminate or formica

I'm lucky enough to live in the same town as Bob Kramer, of Kramer Knives. I was at his shop today and brought him a piece of MagnaCut since he hasn't had the chance to work with it just yet.

In return, he's having me come over next week and we're going to build a chef knife together. I'm pretty dang excited.

So... Nothing going on in my shop per se, but close enough. :D

Golden opportunity, I hope you have thought about some nice handle material.

I'm really excited. I learned a lot from just our talk today, I can't wait to get some pointers from him and see him work.

I've been thinking about that. I have a nice little stockpile of all kinds of wood on hand, and have some pretty nice burls.

Since it's going to be a kitchen knife, I was thinking either Desert Ironwood, African Blackwood, or something stabilized... Assuming Bob doesn't have something in mind already.

Right now I'm thinking either the Desert Ironwood Burl here, or the stabilized KOA in the second pic. I've been saving both for something a bit special.

Sweet! Sometimes I wish I still lived in Oly to visit his shop. I've often wondered if he still has his mardi-gras pizza oven/forge that he used when he demonstrated at the NWBA conference 10 years or so ago...

Any of those handle choices would look great. Have fun.

Thank you!!!

It really is not turning out how I had hoped, but it taught me a lot. I was hoping to see a nice bevel line, but I ground it out too much by hand. I'm practicing using my 1x30 and will grind the bevel on the next knife using that.
We makers started like that, no apology needed! No matter how many years we have made knives, it will remain a learning curve. You are doing just fine.

Break the edges and rough round with a small wheel if available. Then 3m microfinishing film cut into thinner strips. 100 mic -> 60 micron -> 9 micron

the spine is usually done the same way
Thank you, I'll have to check that 3M film out!

This one describes it good.

There is another vid that I can't find now, I think @Hubert S. posted somewhere on the forum before.
That’s a really good video. I will try that next time. Sometimes I use Butch’s method in that other video posted. But just very roughly and then hand sand to finish the plunge. I wish the Dani video would have showed the plunge close up after all the grinding was done.

He didn't showed the plunge close up after all the grinding was done because grinding around plunge was not even close to finish...................watch carefully end of video when he finish with grinding and you will see that , the light never lies .There was still that triangle on spine .Most likely he will finish that part by hand sanding.Lot of hand sanding................. ;)

Definetly check out the Vachon Knives video on Instagram as well (use your GF or whoevers insta account if you don't have one). He shows the blending lengthwise, convexing and how the finished product looks like. Also all the steps so perfectly clean and well explained.
