Just upgraded my PAPR to a TR600, then custom mounted it to a molle vest. Sooo comfortable now

Getting back into it. I almost forgot how much I enjoy working on fine details. A small three finger knife for myself to test how I like a hollow grind as an EDC.
(and test some other things)

What to do with a checkering file:

Figured out why I could not post pictures ... so here is that santoku..

Been trying to work through some of the backlog of blades I have had sitting on my bench. This is a Santoku for a friend of my son (the friend (fellow student) being someone who has worked in restaurants and likes to cook at home). Santoku, CPM154 at RHC 62, Rectagonal Wa handle with blackwood bolster and butt, and copper separators. The main part of the handle is one of those "mystery woods" I picked up from the grab box at woodcraft. I dont have any idea what it is .... and it is kind of a pain to work (it does not so much pull out as comes out in large fibrous pieces when sanding at rough grit) .... but I have really liked the way it finishes when sanded to finer grit and finished with wax.

continuing to put in time to clear my "backlog" . this one is is actually a kitchen knife for myself. It is meant as an "update" of one of my 35 year old Sabatier "Nogent" knives (black handle on bottom of photo). They sell it as a 6" "chefs" knife ... but I have always thought of and used it as a Utility knife. The Nogent knives have a much thinner blade than the Sabatier "Elephant" knives and use a hidden tang handle - so this one was/is light and responsive in the hand and cut cleanly. For many years it was the first knife I reached for for small slicing chores. You can tell the edge has receeded through many, many sharpenings....

The "update" is S35VN at 62 RHC, brass bolster with peened brass pins (which just disappear when the thing is sanded down), reconstituted gemstone (yes, I stole the idea from Horsewright) and stabilized cherry burl with peened brass pins. I am looking forward to getting is sharpened and trying it out!

fortunately, there was just enough flat plane action going on that I was able to get the handle profile cleaned up enough for hand finishing. Yay.

I thought about filling the holes, which makes sense from a hygiene perspective, and I still might but I doubt it. I've moved on!
that's olive drab Terotuf, rubbed to 600 grits.
