Here's another one from my failure pile I hate everything about this one especially the horrendous messed up parkerize job! It fell down into the gunk at the bottom of the pot and sat there for way too long, and produced an EXTREMELY tough durable finish!(that looks like crap) believe it or not I actually had this one heat treated at Peters so I might as well finish it ! ,it's 52100 .I've been stabbing it into wood and stuff and it's very very tough and the finish is very very durable but I just hate this knife right now I'm open to suggestions on this thing . I'm going to finish it and put a handle on it just for the hell of it . 1657024807652.jpg1657024732225.jpg1657024869706.jpg1657024845036.jpg

I've been working to clean up my huge collection of photos and I came across this pic. This is the original Bubble Jig where I cut four angled wedges of different degrees and glued magnets to the bases. The magnets came off the refrigerator, in our kitchen, where they were holding up pics of my son. If you look closely you will see the wedges are marked 10, 9. 8 and 11 degrees which is no where near what they should be for grinding bevels. Still experimenting., still learning.
The grinding clamp was made using a cotter key from the BFX railroad. The photo was taken in 2009. My son and I have manufactured just under 5,000 Bubble Jigs since coming to market at the end of 2009.
I've had the pleasure of meeting, talking to, and sharing with knife makers from around the world, being on line in England, South Africa, Australia, Germany and other countries. It's been quite a trip.
Happy grinding, Fred

This is my 2nd complete knife & first ever Kydex sheath. It’s 5160 stock removal, hand-ground bevels (w/Bubble Jig assist), homemade forge heat treated, tempered two hours x2 @ 375F, and skates a 60 HRC but sticks the 65 HRC Tsubosan hardness file. Scales are black/black G10 and beech wood from an Israeli FAL stock with blue G10 pins and a decorative inlet faux FAL locking shoulder w hidden stainless steel pin in the center. White vulcanized liners, too. Sharpened & stropped on a Wicked Edge. It’s not perfect, but I’d be proud to carry it. Feel free to critique and comment, please!

Got a fun package in the mail today, Popsknifesupply got some new flap wheels for finishing work and I had to try them out. They are 320 and 600 grit silicon carbide, they are nice and soft for blending and the final polish for handle work. They come with a 1/4” arbor and I didn’t want to make a trip to the hardware store to try to figure out how I was going to mount them so I slowly drilled the arbor out to 1/2” with a hand drill to mount them on my buffer, ended up working great. First knife I tried them out on was my wife’s, it needed some clean up work done to it. Note she made this knife almost entirely herself start to finish. I really like the matte/satin polish the 600 grit left and the 320 was able to remove some scuffs and areas the handle had a bit more wear. I’m glueing up a bunch of knives today and will be shaping handles tomorrow and will really get to try these out and will post some photos of more finished knives using these. They also did a good job on steel adding a nice luster after a scotchbrite belt but I need a buffer with a longer shaft to really make sure of them that way since the motor gets in the way of blade work.
