Why is that? Bob Loveless did them on his hunters and they are hollow ground.

I think functionaly and aesthetically they make more sense with a heavier/thicker stock.
5mm M2 steel , hollow grind , tapered tang .On next one i will taper tang to zero :)

That's awesome info, Stacy! Thank you. I've never even heard of a "solder pick" before & that sounds like a slick trick.

I like that finish and the knife of course
But ..... Is there an end to how many tools I need to make for one ****** knife??? I can do general repair on a car engine with a few wrench .... while this ????? So my next project is stonewash knife tumbler , I guess 🤣
I used to think knife making was just some ploy to get you to buy more tools. It never stops! You have to put an end to it at some point!

Tools ? What tools 🤣
It is time to finally make this big wheel ....:)

I cut this today with small angle grinder , so there would be as little work as possible on the lathe . Then surface ground this two pieces for scale .Today is the first time in my life that my mother didn't let me go into the house and make coffee. I must have looked like snowman:(

:)
What you use to etch knife ? Is color we see on picture same as you see it ? I really like that finish
I use a ferric/water mix, about 3:1. I leave the knife in for 10 minutes, then take it out, neutralize the acid and let the oxides set up for an hour or so before cleaning it. Then into the harbor freight vibratory tumbler for about 30 minutes.

The color in the photo is exactly how it looks! I like a nice dark, marbled stonewash on my high carbon blades. Thanks again for the compliment!

I started a WiP in the C&H forum yesterday. If you are interested in making folding knives, you can check it out here
if you have experience making folders and feel inclined to impart your knowledge there, it would be appreciated :)

That's an excellent thread and I can tell that your respect for Bing will push you to the highest standards.

my RD_knives RD_knives radial platen showed up today! It oozes quality- nicely made piece of equipment!

put it to use today and I'm really looking forward to learning how to use it properly

for my first time using it, I figured it would be easiest to grind a tapered fuller into an 18" long blade. Super easy. Looks GREAT too 🥴

I could probably clean it up, but I'm not going to
