26c3 (light hamon) and Bubinga wood for the larger knife and 8670 and Bubinga for the smaller EDC. For whatever reason this set just did not want to cooperate and anything that could go wrong seemed to. Bandsaw blade broke, drilled like 3 sets of scales wrong, guide pins broke and mid epoxy on the larger knife the first good set of scales cracked and pin got stuck just to name a few frustrations. During removal I accidently dropped the knife and got all scratched up. Had to hand sand again and did my best to get to a finished knife without tossing it into the trash :).

Just a set that seemed to be a give me problems from start to finish.

I was at the trap club today (hit 49 of my first 50, then went to dog crap…but I digress)

One of the guys I shoot with commented it would be handy to have something small on a lanyard to cut the tape on the shell boxes. A lot of us wear ammo/empty belts and pouches so getting to your EDC knife can be a pain.

So I came home and made these from scrap. They’re only sharp enough to break through tape - figured it was more of a hazard to have them any sharper. They are 1084 and I obviously won’t have them heat treated. But I think they’ll work pretty well. Something different.

I bought a few thick CPM 3V bars from Nathan a few years back at Blade (2019 I think), but haven't done anything with them until now. I have only made 1 other dagger about 15 years ago, and that was with files and sandpaper, and was chisel ground. This one is THICK CPM 3V (.240ish) with a diamond cross section and taperd tang. I decided on stabilized Amboyna burl for the scales. This one is ready to go to Peters, with a few others.

Edit to add: I do not particularly care for daggers, BUT what is the fun of making knives if you don't challenge yourself and work outside your comfort zone every now and then?

oh yeah! That kicks ass! It will need a bombproof leather sheath;)

Not much shop time lately, work work has been keeping me busy but I did manage to finish this sheath up the yesterday. The stamp is supposed to be on the other side of the dangler, I've done that now twice in a row :( Also accidentally used .8mm ritza thread instead of 1mm.

I like the smaller thread. Smaller awl blade? Lil higher stitch count too perhaps?

Stitch count is the same, stitch length is preset. Surprisingly I can feel the .2mm difference on my fingers when sewing. Awl size is the same too so it was easier to stitch... but I prefer the thicker thread myself, reminds me of the swiss saddlers of old.

With the thicker thread and 3 back stitches I'm not sure a higher stitch count would add that much more strength. I've actually hammered one flat from the side and bent it in half to test the seam strength still was able to dry form back just fine with perfect retention to boot. Leather keeps its wet mold memory even after taking a beating, but I'm certain you already know all bout that :)

Finished folder number 3 and there were mistakes and lessons to be learned. But overall I’m happ with the turn out. View attachment 2219147View attachment 2219148View attachment 2219149View attachment 2219150View attachment 2219151View attachment 2219152
