Enjoying the process of learning how to make slipjoints. Got myself a new EDC :)
Tony Bose pattern zulu spear, random jigged bone(by myself) and convex hammered pins.

Beautiful day today! 70's and partly cloudy, before the rain hits tonight. Got some work done, tangs tapered, spines rounded and polished, hollow ground bevels polished, and thumb serrations cut. My back is sore, my hands are sore...but I like the results! All in S90V.

Working on my first hamon. Nothing special, but it's a real hamon. I got most of the decarb off. Making a hamon is a pain in the butt and I'm not sure I will do it again. .100 inch thick 26C3 treated at 1475 for 12 minutes and quenched in Park's 50. Tempered at 300 for two hours then 350 for two hours. The other blade is .170 thick AEB-L treated at 1950 for 15 minutes, plate quenched with compressed air and promptly into a dry ice/isopropyl slurry while the oven cooled. Tempered at 300 for two hours then 330 for two hours. The handle is "curly" maple.

^ I have one of these made by Brad, has a permanent place at the press.

I received the Tungsten Carbide platen from @RDKnives...this thing is a beauty! tapered a few tangs with very little post grinder flattening needed. My only recommendation is round the top of the carbide to reduce belt wear.

Used an idea Brad Jensen had posted on his instagram for a drilling jig. This is something I'd use on regularly on slipjoints. Steel I'd had around practicing nail nicks on, hardened, surface ground 8670, taped for screw and some thumb screws I had sitting around.

How does it work?

Rough and ready tang adjustment, probably still more accurate than production knives.

Ruler down back of spring and scribe.

Move to half stop position and scribe new lin

Way-Barney, I was wondering, is that the final position of the blade/spring match up in the open position? Might be a problem with it staying taught if the tang is bottomed out on the spring like that. Sorry about your broken spring!
