I got one of the Nordic Edge's knife vise after seeing them at Blade this year. They all had already been spoken for, but I ordered one directly from them. I love it. It's been a great investment!
I really wanted the TR Maker vise, but it's $250 more, this vise also has a very cool adjustable platform for hand sanding as you know.
I had to make a small modification to my vise, since the tolerance between the cylinder and the holders is a little loose and the thumb screw is just not enough to keep it from wiggling around when I'm sanding. It was a pretty easy fix- I used the leftover double sided tape inside the arc of the cradle and stuck a thin strip of suede to it.

I haven't had that problem with the wiggling, but your fix for is awesome. I'll have to remember that if it ever comes up.

just bought a house and setup a little garage shop, only hand tools right now, may only get a drill press, working on my second ever knife, bolsters solid brass with brass liners and pretty cuts of cocobolo hammered together with brass pins, gonna have a dagger grind blade with a back spring for the lockback mechanism, both 1084 steel

Next time, I will do the rungs a good bit closer to each other before forging down. I think I will use a burr to cut the grooves to make them more rounded instead of an angle grinder grinding disc.
When I do ladder patterns, I typically use a grinding disc that's slightly used so it has a rounded profile, and try to space them so that there is no flat/ungrounded portion on both sides of the blank. Basically trying to make the blank look like a sine wave when viewed from the side.

the tolerances on yours are probably better. It totally wouldn't be an issue if the cylinder on mine wasn't so undersized. I should measure it and contact them to see what their spec is

just got this sweet new vise! It wasn't cheap, but I've been planning to make one for about 4 years and it's still in the planning stages.
I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty decent improvement over the 2x4 and clamp method I've been using lol

I got it from Maritime Knife Supply up here in sunny Canada, and it's made in Australia. Go Commonwealth!
I bought the same one a few months ago and love it! I attached it to my bench with a swiveling vise mount so I can rotate it into whatever position I need.

Here is a shot of a few blades back from heat treat, some hunters, a few Walkabouts, a skinner in 10V and an un-named EDC in S90V. Getting the next batch of S90V ready to ship to Peters' this weekend, to include that 6" Bowie above (CPM 3V).

Quick look at my new sharpening system. I didn't like any offerings I've seen for grinders until now so I made this one. Uses a Tormek style bar as a base, and the jig is spring loaded instead of having to tighten screws. Will make sharpening batches of knives much faster.

Thanks WEO! I got a billet from HHH Damascus and it's a much tighter rung! I did 3/4" spacing and used a 1/8" thick disc and beveled the corners a bit. Next time, I will probably use a 1/4" burr or wheel to grind and do a much closer groove, like 3/8" or so apart!

I ground out three Karambits in S90V with tapered tangs months ago, but have n't done anything with them until now. This is the first, and the only one with finger grooves. Never saw a K-bit with a tapered tang so...why not try it? Still finishing the handle (Bone linen micarta). Wanted a design that would work for utility.
