Has to take a day off to wait for the honey wagon so I finished these up. The 4 on the left are different variations of a hunter/skinner design I’ve been playing around with. The last one on the right is just a little utility knife.

Spine is too thin 1/8" for real work. But the hamon line and the saya is the art. Tsuba is mild steel blackened and the handle is natural canvas micarta.
Steel is W2. Best guess is the cutting edge is around 63 Rockwell C, no guess on the spine but it's very flexible. Like filet knife flexible and Straight. Scabbard ( saya) is Padauk hand carved and finished with Tung oil.20250219_200408.jpg

Finished my first one in a long time and although I think it turned out alright, I was definitely a little rusty making it, especially the sheath. It’s for a friend whose birthday is today, so I had a deadline. I’m not super happy with the sheath and I’ll probably make another one for him eventually.

Anyways, I realized a year or two ago that I’m almost always gravitating towards the small knives I own instead of the bigger ones and decided to try making a few. It’s about 6 inches overall and about 2 1/2 inch cutting edge (if I remember correctly). I put a little recurve on this one just to try it. Ringed gidgee with ivory G-10 liners and stainless Corby bolts. It’s AEB-L that I sent out for heat treatment. The sheath is thicker than I wish, but all I have on hand is 8-9 oz leather.

Two big 'uns! Sexy stuff, as soon as I set up the shop again I want to kick off by doing a big chef knife with some SS san mai with Apex Ultra.

Got this guy finished up so I can use it as a new shop/EDC blade for me! 1/16" thick Magnacut, 64 HRC, 2.75" cutting edge. G10 handle frame, Canvas Micarta scales. Weight is 2.2oz, sheath brings the weight total up to 3.6oz. Nice, light and super slicey!! Benchmade bugout for size comparison...it's only like .3oz heavier than the bugout! I did some handle re profiling and contouring and it went from 2.5oz to 2.2, so if I contour a bit more, I may be able to get it around the 2oz mark. With wood scales, probably under 2oz!480279835_18042090467582960_5872495691861240345_n.jpg480954010_18042090479582960_5960426147386815189_n.jpg

Also, what's your experience with buffalo horn as full tang scales, isn't buffalo horn famous for being unstable? Haven't worked much with it yet.. are those brass pins mechanical fasteners?
