I think any company has some poor design choices in its portfolio of knives. Spyderco just puts out ALOT of models so they roll the dice more often and eventually individual knife designs will be released with flaws in design.
This is what I like about Spyderco, though. CRKT does the same thing, only without the same manufacturing quality, use of quality materials, or CQI process. You get lots of models and custom collaborations... and some of them prove popular, some don't. The ones that don't get shuffled off after a run or two.
The sheer variety of options Spyderco has put out lately means that some of them are bound to end up with design or manufacturing flaws or just not catch on in the market, but I'm glad that Spyderco takes the risks, because for every Tropen, there's a Kapara.
This does mean they can be hard to get, because they're not tooled to make each new model constantly, so the production runs of popular ones will often run out before they're scheduled for another run. C'est la vie.
