What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

One of my S35VN Resiliences came in. Ordered this one last week from Blades Canada when they came in stock. At the time of this post, I have reground it from about .020" behind the edge to under .005", as well as radiused the spine, and rounded over the hard corner on the thumb ramp. A nice change of pace in the evening after a full afternoon of coarse grinding heavy khukuris (I'll finish the grind on those tomorrow).

Normally I hit it with the surface conditioning belt afterwards, but I left it with 220 grit ceramic belt satin finish.

Now to cut in a detent ramp, and it'll be good to go. Time to move the 8Cr one on to a new home.

Okay, so one pic for tonight.

I should have all these fully assembled and cured by the time I go to bed, and tomorrow hopefully I can get the handles shaped and put some Boltaron pants on them. Suretouch is pretty easy to machine, which is a nice offset to how much it costs. So an hour with the ceramic flap disc should be all I need to get all five handles profiled, followed by contouring on the grinder, then texturing on the dremel, then finishing ergos on the dremel and with hand sanding. That plus sheaths is still a solid day's work, at least.

Thanks Bob! Grinding them and then bringing them to a decent satin has been a real bear. Even once they're functionally complete, I'll still spend yet more time with the fine scotchbrite belt (a fresh one I got just for them) before I etch my mark on them.

Last day of the work week until Monday. Ground a tanto, and started the handle process. Then partway through the day I had a very pleasant phone conversation with a good customer. Then I ground and prepped two EDC sized blanks, a Bowie, and the spear point ringer I already started, both in AEB-L, while waiting for the glue to cure on the tanto. Those two blades are now ready for handles. The tanto is done and sharpened, and ready for a sheath.

But enough yammering on, here's the story in pics:

I'm really pumped about the tanto. It's a completely ridiculous knife, but it was a lot of fun to build and I think it will be fun for someone to own and play around with.
That is one sweet Tanto. Wow!

Thanks a lot, it was a lot of fun to build. Glad you brought it up because it makes me think I should try something with Micarta liners and textured Suretouch.

Really like those Khuks. Especially like the pattern on those handles.

Bill

Thank you Bill!

Let's just say I like that Tanto so well. If I had the money I would be asking the sale price. Those handles add a nice touch. And the Tanto tip is to my liking. More extended as opposed to short and stubby like on some of the Americanized Tanto designs. Such as Cold Steel.

Just out of curiosity. How much would that Tanto run if you were to sell it?
