What's that you're eating?

Lunch at home today.

Asparagus soup w/diced ham hock meat in it (topped w/a small pour of EVOO & freshly ground pepper), a couple of plain slices of freshly baked sourdough bread made by a friend and a cheap glass of Sutter Home sauvginon blanc. It was delish! :)

A photo of the bread before I sliced it up. It looks professionally made & store bought.

The boy's GF got the wife a gift card for the restaurant she works at for mothers day, so we went tonight when she was working. I got pasta with shrimp, scallops, and mussels, and the wife got cedar plank salmon. Also had a calamari app, and tiramisu for dessert, but didn't snap pics. Everything was fantastic.

This is an old classic place in Abq! With the drive back to the hotel it doesn't look as good, but it sure is though. Homemade chili sauce and grilled hot dogs....mmmm.

Looks great! Reminds me of Weenie Beenie, which I posted on this thread a couple of months ago. I have a client in Walter White Ville, so I get out there from time to time. Next time, Ima look this place up!

Decided to kill some time in The City (San Francisco) after driving to Mt. View (near San Jose) for a medical appt earlier in the day the other day and found another place where I can drink some Van Winkle bourbon (in its various forms).

I've previously drank a couple of pours of Rip Van Winkle 10 at a couple of places, so decided to try a pour of Van Winkle 12 this side. Cost me $40 but that's still a heck of a lot less than a bottle would cost. I enjoyed it with a glass of Pliny the Elder DIPA and a not so great plate of chicken bites.

That night I also found a old style inner city pool hall in the Fillmore District near Japantown and shot around for an hour for the 1st time in many years. I use to hang out in pool halls in my misspent youth and still have a custom birdseye maple pool cue that I had made then -- over 50 years ago now.

The tables and pool cues (available for use) at this place were in very good condition and the pockets on the table I played were very tight. No sloppy shots permitted.

After that I walked over the Japantown for a late night snack before returning home and had this bowl of ramen topped by a huge chunk of pork better (that also included some additional sliced pork, corn kernnels and a boiled tea smoked egg) along with a small bottle of Kirin.

It was a rare and enjoyable night out for this native San Franciscan in San Francisco.

I DON’T WANT ANY MORE TROUBLE LIKE YOU HAD LAST YEAR IN THE FILLMORE DISTRICT. UNDERSTAND? THAT’S MY POLICY.

Who are you talking to? I've never had any trouble in the Fillmore, including when I went to concerts at Fillmore West in the 60's.

Not many Black folks still in the Fillmore District. Mostly white & Asian with the homeless on the fringes.

Not much of a nightclub scene there either since Yoshi's SF closed and a couple of Black clubs failed. I went to Yoshi's a couple of times but was never enjoyed going to nightclubs.

PS: For those you are unfamiliar with the area, there are actually 3 different neighborhoods along Fillmore St in SF: 1) in the Marina District between Union & Chestnut, 2) in Pacific Heights between Broadway & Geary and 3) the lower Fillmore below Geary.

The 1st 2 sections are very upper/upper middle class which is populated mainly by younger white folks and that's reflected in the bars/restaurants/businesses located there.

The gritty section has always been the lower Fillmore but it's far better now than it was in the past and but still isn't any where near as "dangerous" as other parts of The City, like The Tenderloin and Mission Districts.

BTW, most of the younger, white/Asian folks who live in the area now live in the very expensive residential towers (+$3-4k/mo rent for a 1-2 bdrm apt) that were built during the redevelopment effort back in the 90's which displaced many of the Blacks who lived in the area before.

It's a famous quote from the original Dirty Harry movie. I thought for sure you would know it.
