What's that you're eating?

Made some Japanese-style Karaage (Fried Chicken Wings) a couple of days ago. Still have a lot left over.

Marinated the wings overnight in soy, rice wine, garlic & ginger and dreded them in a 1:1 combo of corn starch & flour:

Fried the wings in canola oil in small batches at 350F for 5 mins @:

Made some Vietnamese Nuoc Cham sauce with honey, fish sauce, rice vinegar lime juice, garlic & Thai chillies:

And served myself a couple of pieces of Karaage topped w/ Nuoc Cham and w/some Potato Salad on the side:

Drove to Tracy CA to get my Covid, Flu & RSV vaccinations at CVS (the closest place that had them all) today & did some food shopping on the way back home.

1st Stop -- The New Indian Supermarket (down the way from CVS) where I bought some okra & Indian bitter melons. Will probably make a strew out of the okra and will stuff & braise the bitter melon Cantonese style.

2nd Stop -- Ling Nam -- a Filipino Starbread bakery (across the street from CVS). Starbread is also called Senorita Bread. These things are addictive. You can't just eat one! These will be gone in no time!!! I've already eaten 4 out of 10.

3rd Stop -- Papa Urb's -- a Filipino take out joint (just a few doors down from Ling Nam). Ordered a Sigsig Rice Plate to eat for lunch. It's already gone.

And last stop -- Taste of Texas BBQ in Byron, CA. Ordered a slab of pork ribs. Will eat a few ribs for dinner and will nosh on the rest over the next wk or so. This is the place where I also buy beef ribs which they only make for sale on Saturdays.

Love some bitter melon!

Pie crust, in process:

Chicken. Dumplings.

Chicken & dumplings, along with a whole Serrano. All of the serranos and habaneros I've been getting recently are bland and heatless. So disappointing, but I digress.

I added sage and cardamom in this batch and was impressed, I highly recommend it.

Bratwurst sausage on the grill. Mesquite wood for smoke. Carolina style BBQ sauce out the bottle.

I'm going to make some mac&cheese. But this time, I'm using less flour and more milk in the sauce. Pinch of Nutmeg is supposed to set the sauce off. So I'll try it. Sharp cheddar cheese.

Grill beans. Poured out the can into a metal pan for a loaf. Diced onions added on top with a few slices of jalapeno. Pan placed on the grill. Same smoke as the sausage.

Headed out for a drive in my MR2 Spyder to my favorite spot for grilled oysters but got there too early and decided to just head back and stop at another drive bar /hole in the wall owned by a Korean lady instead. This is just a stock photo but mine MR2 looks just like it.

Ordered up 2 pints of 805 & a plate of Kalbi with Rice & Kimchi. Didn't notice the advertising on the napkin holder til now. Too lazy to edit it out. And just noticed that the photo of the kalbi is "too dark." Nothing I can really do about that.

Never said I was any good as a photographer & it's obvious that I'm not. Oh well . . . LOL! 🤷‍♂️

And since they sold them, on impluse, I bought $100 worth of PowerBall tickets (50) for this coming Monday's etimated $1.55 Billion drawing.

Wish me luck, LOL!!! ;)

Also got talking to the bartender/cook (who is the owner's son) about guns & stuff, who mentioned that he'd like to buy a Keltec KSG and, of course, I've got one that been sitting unused for years in my gun safe. So, I may be able to sell him my KSG too.

You seem to eat many Asian cultures of food.....

That is awesome !!
Galbi , bulgogi and kimchi remind me of old days!!!

Making apple pies tonight. A little bandit snuck in and almost ate all the fixings before I could bake them.

I prefer to make hand pies, rather than large round ones. The top, right three used some lighter, more flexible dough left over from last night's dumplings. The rest used a more dense batch of dough that is more crumbly. Not yet sure which I prefer.

Stroganoff served with asparagus and baked potatoes. I'd usually use egg noodles but apparently they aren't chic enough for Trader Joe's.

Whipped creme. I used vanilla and maple syrup this time.

Dessert assembled. I stewed the leftover pie filling to make an apple drizzle, just because. T'aint pretty, but it'll do.
