What's that you're eating?

When I was young, my sainted Mom (RIP) would sometimes get a Kringle for a special occasion. No one around here makes them, and they are muy espensivo to mail order.

BUT . . . occasionally, Trader Joe's gets a bunch and sells them for under ten bucks. Usually only only flavor. This weekend, I scored.

My wife got one at TJ’s Friday and we had it yesterday. It was really tasty and will be keeping an eye out for them again.

Those little top sirloin were out of the freezer. I’ve been experimenting with different ways of thawing/marinating/tenderizing lately. Seems they’re always just a little goofy no matter what I do.

Have you ever tried vacuum marinating? I use those 64oz Mason Jars with the vacuum sealer adapter cap for the Mason’s. The marinade can really penetrate quick and easy using that vacuum technique. It also tenderizes it at the same time too by expanding the meat grains.
No, I’ve never gotten into vacuum sealing. A buddy of mine swears by it though. He freezes a lot of elk and hog.

These ones seemed fairly tender for what they were but I almost felt like they pulled too much marinade because I could still taste it. I went overboard and massaged them for a few minutes, then let them sit for a few hours. They cooked through too quick and didn’t get any crust on the outside. I’ll try something different next time. Different marinade at the very least. Been working our way through a small backlog of frozen lately. Stupid FredMeyer and their stupid more-than-we-can-eat-in-one-sitting deals. Our small local store actually has a nicer butcher but they are usually about 1/3 pricier.

My dad made peanut butter and mayo sandwiches when I was younger.....I swear never to eat them again lol

Every omelet he made ended up scrambled eggs with hot dogs ... and when I was really young and wanted a "Thanksgiving dinner" he bought me sliced deli turkey from the local grocery store hahahaha

I grew up eating peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches.

I still very much enjoy a good PB & dill pickle sandwich but I'll take a hard pass on PB & Mayo 🤢.

Just collected these huge lemons from my neighbor's tree that hangs over my side of the fence.

I have a limited need for lemons but, if I don't use them for anything else, I'll juice them and then freeze the juice for later use as I do w/limes.

I haven't eaten out much lately because of all of the rain that we've had in the SF Bay Area the past 2 months but I finally took a drive to one of my favorite spots along the Sacramento River the other day to "Al the Wop's" in Locke, CA.

And I had a very nicely constructed and delicious BLT with a side salad & a glass of Lagunitas IPA there. :)
